Making a good one isn't going to be much cheaper.

On a budget, you can get some copper pipe, braze (not solder) an end cap on it, lap it, make some mounting hardware, and use that. You can elaborate on this concept as much as you wish.

If you want to make a good one, you'll need to locate a machine shop with the proper equipment (ie a metal lathe), locate material (copper or aluminum). You'll need a design to use as well, including proper measurements for width, height, bottom thickness, wall thickness, etc.

Have you contacted Duniek yet? I bought my first tube from him for an extremely reasonable price. That was for a plain Copper/ALU unit. He sells all ALU units for probably cheaper than you could have one made without the proper resources.

So if you haven't contacted him yet, you should.

Otherwise, there's a huge DI/LN2 section at XS with countless pots for you to borrow ideas from. It's always nice to ask permission to borrow an idea first though.

Try and buy an all Aluminum pot for a good price for your first runs. It will cost you more to make one than to buy one unless you have the above stated equipment, or know someone who has access and will work your metal free.

Performance between Aluminum and Copper is not going to make a difference in your first few runs.
