Default The Dice Pot Noob

Well I was finally able to try my hand at dicing today. I bought one block of dry ice and had two hours to use it. Needless to say I did not use it all in that time, but it was a good learning process and it was fun. Not may pics and not that good of a quality since I discovered that my camera was dead so here are a few pics with my phone. Was not that great of an overclock but it was the best I could do in the alloted time. One of the pics is the highest I was able to post at, but could not get it to boot into windows. After that shot I was done and I started taking it all apart.

Edit: I forgot to specify what I was doing this on. Since I have taken most of the folding farm down I decided to go through some of it and have some fun. This first run was done with an E6700 on a DFI Infinity P965 with 1GB of Ballistix 1066.

Did the chip cold bug or just cold boot bug. You can use SetFSB to change your settings from windows. This way you can boot at lower settings to get around the cold boot bug and then push your chip faster.

I really do not know for sure. I was able to run SuperPi quite a few times with no tweaks at all and the best I had was 11.89. The highest I was able to get a CPU-Z validation was 4486. I am also not sure how good this board is either as I just purchased it to use in my folding farm a few months ago and got it because it was an open box at a good price. As far as the Proc (E6700) I was expecting more since I was able to easily hit 3818 on air on a Zalman 9500A.

Going cold takes patience, luck, and learned skill. I'm sure you will work the bugs out when you get more time. Keep at it and the results will come. SetFSB and Memset are two handy tools you can use. That way if you chip does not cold bug on the DICE you can push it to the max. The only setting you have to input before boot up is your voltage. After that its windows overclocking all the way. Gets you around any cold boot bug.

Good luck.

Looks like fun!.... I pulled my old 5000BE rig out the other day to dice and at 15C and below it would lock up on me, glad yours is booting for you.

Thanks for the pic's, glad to see a AMD dicer here. I still miss playing with ram timings a lot.

Well that run was done on an Intel chip. I feel like I don't mind losing one of those compared to my AMD chips I am planning on pulling out my old 5600+ X2 90nm and seeing what I can do with it before it cold bugs and then trying my BE-2400 and then my 9850 BE before finally dicing up the 940 BE.

Rut Ro, I didn't look at the screen shot.

The BE I tried it on was a royal pain. I had to try to keep it at 15C and above, with that chip anyway. A degree lower and I'd have to fish my piece or two of ice out and let it thaw out and try it again. I even tried to run a really high v-core so I could make it to desktop and it didn't work. I couldn't use acetone at all, just the ice.

I messed with it for 2 or 3 hours and made it to desktop probably 3 or 4 times, I'm going to try it again sometime, I'm a glutton for punishment I guess.

Wow, 15C. I actually expected somewhere around 0C. Man I really need to get a good thermometer to work with. Been watching them on ebay, just have not found a good enough deal. It is definitely going to be a pain without one. Thanks for the info on that though.

I am already addicted. I can't wait until this weekend to do it again on a different chip.
