I was going to buy a $500 water cooling setup until I talked to my Dad tonight. I was telling him I'm going to overclock my new i7 build and he said "You're going to need water cooling or something". I said "I know, I know".
__________________He then said he and a student (he works at a college) were talking computers and the student said Dry Ice cooling was better and cheaper. Any truth to this? I know a lot about WC but absolutely NOTHING about Dry Ice. Can anyone enlighten me on this? Thanks guys and gals

You can't cool with dry ice 24/7...unless you have a lot of dry ice and keep refilling the pot. Dry ice is more for benching and suicide runs. Also, you don't need to spend $500 on a CPU only loop.

You can overclock an i7 on air as well with a decent heatsink (TRUE, Xiggy, Noctua...the usual suspects). The question really becomes, how MUCH do you plan on overclocking, and for what purpose?

Ah, I see. Well, it was a nice thought while it lasted lol :P Thanks guys.
__________________I'm going to make a nice big loop :P Going to overclock to the best of my ability. Just for games and stuff. Also getting CS4 and I'll need to run multiple tasks in that because my friends/sister's boyfriend is going to be using it.

If you're spending that much, you're better off cutting costs on the CPU loop and including RAM/GPU/NB/SB cooling in there.

QFT Jason. Well done.
Personally, I would look at spending about $250 on a nice WCing loop. Lemme find the stuff..... ![]() Swifty MCR320 http://www.petrastechshop.com/swmcqposerab1.html Yate Loon HS (3) http://www.petrastechshop.com/12yalod1cafa2.html Swifty GTZ http://www.petrastechshop.com/swapgtzcpuwa.html Swifty MCRes V2 http://www.petrastechshop.com/swmcmirere.html Swifty D5 Vario http://www.petrastechshop.com/swmcin12pu.html 7/16th MC tubing (10ft) http://www.petrastechshop.com/7id5odmagepu.html PTNuke http://www.petrastechshop.com/pepcobi1.html Use Distilled + 3 drops of PTNuke + 3-6 drops of whatever color food coloring to a 2 liter bottle for your coolant. Comes to about ~ $233 + Shipping...

for 500 you can go phase for extreme over clocking. and go 24/7 with it as well. however most people dont need this other then bragging rights and serious overclocks and have a quick upgrade path if you plan on keeping your cpu for a while and running it at a modest overclock. an affordable loop would be the best bet
