Default Addies and Slappa's Phenomenal DICE Run

Hey guys,

So yesterday Slappa and I did a bunch of dice runs on three Phenom II's: the Phenom II 940, 955 and an Phenom II AM3 ES. We got some really good results with all three. We started off using a Gigabyte AM3 board (GA-MA790FXT-UD5P) and eventually moved on to a Foxconn A79A-S (AM2+). We started out with the 955 on the Gigabyte and managed 4.725GHz at 1.5 volts with ease (http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=549288). We also managed to get 4.5GHz at 1.45 (http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=549266). The Gigabyte board was actually really good at reading the subzero temperatures but our main issue with that board was that AMD Overdrive refused to work with it. We also put in our engineering sample in that board and managed a nice 5Ghz oc, we never took a CPU-Z validation but we did get it on video

Now lets move on to the Foxconn:

The "New" Setup:

Another Look Down the Pot:

The Foxconn was a totally different overclocking experience. The temp sensor bugged out with subzero temps and AMD Overdrive worked perfectly. To our surprise, we got better overclocks (though somewhat minimal) with this board, even with DDR2 ram. One thing about this board though, every CPU-Z validation we tried ended up getting rejected, even at stock speeds , and we really had no idea why.

We started out with the Phenom II 940, and managed to achieve 4.7GHz at 1.75 with a fair bit of ease (http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=549379). We could even take the voltage all the way down to 1.65 and still run a few programs. Our main issue was getting past 4.8GHz, even while running a massive amount of voltage (read: 1.85 Volts ) we never could get past 4800MHz.

We also popped in the 955 for one last try at OC'ing the beast. We managed to get 4.83GHz out of it at 1.66 Volts (http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=549483)

Stay tuned for Slappa posting a nice video of all these OC's.

Looks good, but I do have one suggestion that I don't see you guys doing from your pics. You really need something to jab and slosh the dice/acetone in the pot. This will help stabilize your temps and effectively give you a few more mhz.

I used a long screw driver like this..

Nice work indeed! 4.83ghz is nothing to be ashamed of ...you submit your stuff to hwbot yet..? You should get quite a bit of points with the 955BE submissions...there are currently "0" registered in the hwbot database.

Yep, submitted that.

How long does it take for a new processor to register and get points for?

Well I submitted the 955's under the Phenom II X4 945, as well as 955 submissions.

Already up to 5.3 Points.

Wonder if they will put up the 955 listing with Addies and I at the top.
