So how does a dice run go down ? have my pot (BIG THANKS to Jayrock) and a cheap rig to practice on ( ecs board and pent 4 775)

Fill pot reach -70 / boot up / check all to system go maintain -70 / reboot to cmos/ bump cpu volts bump fsb volts / reboot / fill pot to maintian -70 / run bench ie vantage / reboot to cmos bring down all volts / reboot / shut down

I have no ideal what I am doing but's it's going to fun

, guess I have to start some where.

Any good site's or threads I could do some more research? Jayrock's thread was great for me how to insulate my board .

Start by clearing your CMOS. Install all your hardware\CPU. Use an AIR cooler to boot into windows and make sure everything is working.

The insulate. And double check your insulation. And triple..... well you get the idea.

Install your pot. And remember, with no CPU cooler, there is not much airflow over your chipsets and ram. So slap a fan in there somewhere.

I load my pot about 1\2 full of Dry ICe, and let it sit for a couple min so the base will have a good low temp when I boot.

Boot into bios, and go directly to the "hardware monitor" page that shows temp. Once there, I pour just a little acetone at a time and watch the temps drop. Once they level out, I pour a little more. And repeat until the temps don't drop anymore. Usually around -65c

I check the level of DICE and Acetone as you will burn it up faster at the start of your run. I usually try and keep my pot 2\3 full of Dry Ice, and 1\4 full of acetone.

Now go set your overclocking settings, and reboot. Hope it hits desktop, cry if it does not. jk

Keep an eye on temps, condensation, and keep a long metal poker to "stomp" down your DICE, and keep your pot full.

If temps start to rise and there is plenty of Dry Ice in your pot, that usually means that your acetone level is really low.

Now, when you are done DICE'ing, turn the computer off. Unplug the PSU from the wall, and remove the Cmos battery right away. This will remove all power from flowing into the system. There are components on the mobo that will still retain a little electricity though. So grab a hair dryer, and warm your pot up enough to get it off the board.

Keep some shop towels handy to wipe condensation. It will start to form as soon as the board starts to warm up.

Let your board "dry out" over night or at least 12 hours after your run.

I had thought I killed a board my first run. Let the board sit overnight and it did NOT work.

I was sad. I really thought it was dead. A couple days later I got a wild hair and tried to get it to post. It works like a charm still

. Moral? Water can stick around for a good long time. And although things can die from DICE'ing, sometimes they are just playing dead

So don't throw anything away, and give it a little time if it does not work, and try it another day

Great walk-through, primer. You are alot more careful than I ever was!

And, kraygon, it is normal to fear the worst, but I'm sure you'll do great from the get-go.
