Gonna try out DICE for the first time tonight.
Since LN2 suppliers keep banker's hours I won't have a chance to try that out until later this week. Probably better to practice with milder temps first anyway. Biostar T power i45. E8400 C0 (kind of a lousy one - can only get it to 4.5 max on water). 4890 Toxics Crossfired (p45 chipset so the 8X8 may bottleneck some). G.SKILL 4 GB DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Here are some prep pics. For those with experience: Did I nail polish enough? Do capacitors? Don't do capacitors? Is my eraser cover too much/little? Wife/girlfriend tip: Prep your board with nail polish and ask her to pick the color. ![]() Kneadable eraser. ![]() ![]() ![]() Chipping DICE is kind of a pain. No idea how much I need. ![]() Clocks to follow. Hope I can hit close to 5.0 ghz.

Did you re-TIM the NB/Mosfet HP? It really helps keep temps down.
Great to see a dice run on the BioStar.

You did use Di-electric in the socket right?

^ (eclipse) no need for that unless you'd be benching for 24 hours. for TEC's it is required, for LN2/DICE, not so much.
Good luck on your DICE run patch! Although I think kneadable erasers + neoprene + tape would have been enough for a 6-8 hour DICE run!

Run aborted.
![]() Booted right up at 4.85 Ghz. -70 C. Too easy. Why bother even validating? Happily adding more DICE and stirring up acetone. Restart to try for 5 ghz. No post. -74. Cold trouble? Prolly not. Clear CMOS (PAIN IN THE REAR WITH THIS BOARD - dumb jumper/bat placement under hardware). Post to BIOS. Phew. Notch it down a bit. F10. No post. Clear CMOS. Over and over and over. Finally loaded up default settings and booted into windows (-74 C). Restart. No post. Ice at a few areas around base and droplets of condensation on capacitors (on top of nail polish ).Rather than risk it, I went the hairdryer route. Defrost and dry. Gonna re-insulate and try another day. Quote:
Didn't. No ice or water in or around socket this time...... Tried to take pictures of ice and condensation. But turns out my memory card wasn't in the camera .Maybe ice and water weren't even the problem, but didn't want to risk it on the first go. Oh well. Next time.

DICE is cheap. 99 cents/lb at a local grocery store here. Also common at bait shops and meat packers. Acetone is freely available at any hardware store. LN2 is a bit more difficult to find depending on where you live. It ranges from $1-6/L and is most commonly available at gas/welding supply stores. The containers on the other hand (dewars) are pretty expensive, though you can sometimes get lucky on ebay for a few hundred USD. A DICE/LN2 pot can sometimes be found on ebay, but you're more likely to get one used from someone selling here on OCN. PM Duniek or Bartx here on OCN and they can make one for you.

How high did you jack the vcore for the runs?
This board is picky about high end OC's, requires cold boot after bios changes.

Patch, are the kneadable erasers re-usable? Good thing you had nail polish on, might want to have paper towels + neoprene on top next time. helps absorb condensation. Another run tomorrow? It's a learning experience, I bet I'll have mine pretty soon too.
