Virgin LN2 run tonight.
Subambient overclocking is incredibly addicting and gobs of fun. Biostar tPower i45 E8400 C0 2X1 Patriot Viper DDR2 PC9600 5-5-5-12 I learned a ton tonight. LN2 is both harder and easier than DICE. LN2 requires much more attention for maintenance of temps. But even though it gets a lot colder, it's less time consuming recovering from cold boot problems. Trying to fish out rocks and dump acetone is much more difficult than waiting a bit for LN2 to boil off. As I describe things, somebody please correct my terminology if it's wrong. With this system: 1) Wouldn't cold boot into BIOS colder than -68ish. 2) Wouldn't cold boot into Windows colder than -48ish. 3) It will boot into both much colder (even -130) if I restarted quick enough after a BSOD. But if I waited too long to restart, or fiddled around in BIOS, then I had cold boot problems and had to wait until it warmed up to get back in. 4) No cold bug even down to -140. I'd BSOD there, but if I restarted quick enough it would reboot right back into windows. I didn't get much farther than I did with DICE, but it was more stable, and I did finally break the 5.0 Ghz barrier with a chip. Enough talking. Here's some pics. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I'm even getting some exercise when waiting for rig to warm back up to boot levels. ![]() ![]() http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=588390 Now that I'm spending so much time in the garage, I'm considering finishing the walls and painting....

I don't know how cold it will go yet. I didn't try to get any colder than 145ish. I could get my chip to 5 ghz at -110, but it wouldn't go any higher even at -145. I never loaded the pot more than about 30-40% in case I had to let it boil off to deal with cold boot problems. I need to get a nice E8600 and a NB pot to really see what this board can do.

Nice, but you should break rather 5.6 -5.8GHz than 5.0. Maybe you have a poor chip, rest of your bench rig is very good. Voltage seems to be too small, give this baby 1.7 - 1.8v. On air I hit one time 4.8GHz on 1.55v or something like that. Keep pushing

Thanks.

I've tried to give the darn thing up to 1.9 v. Biggest problem is that I can very rarely get it to even post with more than 1.5 v, even with only a moderate overclock. I'm probably overlooking some setting or voltage cocktail, but this board/chip gives me immediate overclock failures with high voltages. I'll try to go hunting to see if there's some power management setting I'm overlooking. I'm happy to fry it, but it won't seem to let me. ![]() The Biostar overclock utility in Windows doesn't seem to work very well so I haven't been able to adjust V on the fly.

lol @ the chip that wont let u
it. You might try some way to use the LN2 on the vregs. Maybe they are getting too hot.
