i7 1366 Socket Insulation Advice requested (DICE) - Overclock.net

I would like to know if it is a MUST, or suggested, that you insulate the inside of the 1366 socket for DICE runs?

This will be DICE only, and only for a few runs at a time. I plan to insulate the back area under this section with eraser, and the inner area of the socket edges with neoprene. Just wanted to get opinions on the inside of this socket because I'd like to not have to get into the socket itself if it is not necessary due the the fragility of 1366 pins.

Any tips or suggestions on this would be greatly appreciated. I have seen plenty of guides and some suggest grease, ect for long term use or just personal preferences, just wanted to get some opinions about DICE runs only and not long term setup.

Halloween on the EVGA forums had PJ all over the socket before the CPU went in. The thread is very long I will look for a link.

This is a pretty good set of pictures getting ready for some multi stage phase. there's only a few places w/o PJ, really...

I don't want to do it that way for sure.

I wondered about this to avoid getting into the socket if at all possible, and for sure do not want to use any jelly or greases. I plan to use neoprene and Kneaded erasers.

But thanks much for the link and reply, I will read it anyway and see how they do.

Thank you for posting that.

Tells me that I've been way over-insulating in the wrong areas and under-insulating some crucial areas.

Gonna mull that over for while......

Might help explain why I seem to need much higher volts than others for equivalent clocks.

For DICE runs, I have DICEd for up to 6 hours without greasing the socket with no problems.

correct dielectric grease or PJ protects the pins against pin rot caused by prolonged condensation, as long as you insulate correctly you can bench for 10+ hours without any worries
