Yeah silver solder has gotten pricey. No sorry Bud, It's Winter, time to OC! I'm setting up a benching rig so I need them now.

You need heavy pot for i7. Thin base (10-15 mm) will give you negative 30-40c in idle and I'm not kidding. The same was on p4 chips (smithfields and prescotts).

Bartx speaks truth.

Using my DICE/LN2 pot there was massive pull down in multithreaded aps.

Wprime 1024 at 5.08 ghz on LN2 (8 threads):
Load: -53 (full pot of LN2 boiling over)
Idle: -119 almost instantly (barely validated before coldbug)

On the other hand, even a little bit subambient is pretty darn fun. Especially for pi runs and the older 3D benches.

I say make a pot and DO IT!

Just cut the lock off your thermostat. Buy another, your dad won't know.

turn down the ac when they sleep. close off most of their vents in their room before they go to sleep so they wont know

but as other said, 4.8 should be no problem on water. Shoot i'm just now hitting 4.5ghz on air with a PM cooler. Its hot as crap and i don't feel safe benching but with that 4.8 should not be too hard with better cooling
