Default Advice on DICE setup, Pot/Insulation/Ect

Hello OCN,

Ive got an extra Intel 775 Board and a Intel Pentium 4 3.2Ghz Prescott 90nm just taking up space in my closet, and as im sure you know these things ran hot!, so im looking to take the CPU to its most extreme limits, so im looking for recommendations for a good 775 Socket DICE Pot, as well as insulation recommendations (prefer something I can remove somewhat easily later on).

The board;
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131393

The CPU;
http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82e16819116201

Help me push this CPU to its limits

Edit: Also anyone wouldnt happen to know the lowest operateing temp of this particular CPU? I doubt I would hit the "Cold bug" with DICE, but you never know, lol.

Your not going to hit the cold bug on dice.

My #1 tip is make sure to insulate the bottom of the board very nicely.

PM Duniek or Bartx here at OCN for a DICE pot. Insulation will come with the pots they sell.

I don't know how cold you can get a Prescott. A quick glance at hwbot CPUZ records for your chip shows all the top clocks on phase cooling. I don't see a single DICE or LN2 submission, which leads me to suspect they may coldbug at colder than -60 C.

On the other hand, if you're motivated to get a cheap Cedar Mill Celeron or P4 you can take that to the limits of LN2 before the chip will cold bug.

Buy yourself some kneadable eraser, use it to cover the area all around the socket, and right up to the CPU. Put a layer of shop towel or shamwow like material like that over the eraser, then use them armaflex as your top layer. You should cut the armaflex to fit the base of the pot so it gets a good seal.

On the backside use another layer of kneadable eraser and then on top of that use some frostking like material. make sure you get a sleeve of armaflex for the pot itself as well!

this is what my prep looks like so far

I see youve got the black ops. How that hold up under ln2?

A buddy of mine has got one and he wants to loose his sub-z virginity with it.

Not to offend or downplay anyone but do you know of any sites that I can get a 775 Socket Pot from?, when I was hanging out with some ppl at QuakeCon 09 recently (who where actually useing Liquid Helium to push some Phenom II's), they recommended something along the lines of "kingpin cooling", although I cant remember the name of the website they told me about. If not I will send a PM to those 2 you mentioned and see what they can do for me or recommend for me.

Just for kicks here are some pics of thier OC fun I took at QuakeCon,

Edit: to "voklskier4452" I guess I should use a fair amount of eraser around the socket before I lower the "shammy" / towel onto it since condensation could be killer , would you also say that using a 120MM fan over the PVM's on the motherboard would be good just to help dry up any condensation that will build up?

you are talking about kingpincooling.com

Vince makes a beautiful LN2 pot don't get me wrong, but his designs are rubbish for DICE.. Something made by BartX or Duniek will have better internals for DICE

As for the 120mm fans, I would put them their not for drying the PWM's but you are gonna need to cool those babies when you are pushing 2.0v through a 775 chip

@overshocked:
Havent gotten a chance to run it under Dice yet, but under watercooling i got my e8600 to about 565FSB for some 3dmark 01 runs.. so im hoping it will be better for my E6500k. Keep on the lookout for my soon to be posted subzero thread, i have vacation all week and will be picking up some DICE

The vast majority of LN2 and DICE pots are custom made by independent craftsmen.

The only 2 "sites" I know of are kingpincooling.com and Koolance.com.

Vince's pots at kingpincooling are still "hand-made". His copper CPU pot is not cheap and is made specifically for LN2, but he sells a separate aluminum extension to give it the height necessary to make a really nice DICE pot.

Koolance mass produces a pretty looking Aluminum pot that supposedly works well for an aluminum pot. It's relatively inexpensive and very shiny, but just about any copper pot from anyone will outperform it.

There are a few other independent craftsmen around the world you can find on various forums. Many of them (including Duniek and Bartx) have threads over at xtremesystems.org if you're inspired to browse.

In case you have access to the machines to make them, I have some designs. They haven't been tested, but they seems to be like a lot of the other pots I've seen. They're in the thread I started in this section.

Ok , well then who where knows some people / places to snag a good 775 socket pot for DICE?, Ive got some AM3 pots from earlier overclocks laying around, got them a while back, but honestly, there meant for LN2 or Liquid Helium, and I dont think they will give me the heat Xfer I need for DICE.

Hmm what about this?, Any thoughts?
