Preliminary testing with anemic CPU overclock on H2O and trifire cards on air.

Only problem with this mobo is that it throttles turbo bad and there's no way to stop it. I've disabled it and speedstep, but I'm finding I get better benches with it on - even though it's difficult to get a CPUZ screenie with the set clocks. I had to run superpi to force the CPU to run at speeds I entered in BIOS for a screeny.

At least Ira will be more comfortable looking at 3D benches with a pi shot thrown in.

Here's Vantage on CPU water, GPU's air. (Took a while to get it working. Finally deleted all the cache files and got it going).

At first I was annoyed by all the downclocking these cards do of their memory and gpu clocks instead of artifacting or freezing. It's hard to find the limits when it will just keep completing the run sucky. It makes finding the sweet spots tricky, but fun. I could complete Vantage and 3D06 at higher GPU/Mem clocks, but with lower scores. Fun.

3Dmark06 is so CPU dependent that I'm not even bothering to run it until I freeze the Xeon.

Nope. It's a known problem with the P6T7 and people have been screaming for a BIOS update fix. This is a workstation board, and I think ASUS is not too motivated to cater to a tiny minority of extreme overclockers. They probably feel that they manufacture plenty of other options for us.

Hey I missed your update...Very nice Patch!......Not bad for a water clock at all. Is that a typical v-core for that class of chips and clocks?

That sucks with your mobo doing that, but as you said it's a server board.

When you get a chance you might want to pick up a SS phase, I like one because I can go ahead and work up a decent clock before I DICE, saves a little time and frustration that way. Plus it's fun and good to run a 24/7 clock on to. I just have a old well loved Chilly 1 but it works pretty well on dual cores. It's a antique really, it's a little piece of cooling history so I baby it and take care of it.

Yeah Man it's against the law in at least 8 states, that I know of, not have a SPI on any clocking screenie......

Have fun Patch, looking forward to seeing this bad boy rig kick off when you get it all lined out!...

I think the vcore is high for D0's, but it's far from dialed in. I've mainly been playing with the gpu drivers to make sure trifire is working well.

I'm a little nervous about this chip. So far it's acting inferior to my 920 C0 and the old 975, but I don't know my way around this mobo very well yet. I just gave it the voltage it needed to complete the CPU tests in Vantage and 3D03. It takes weeks to really tinker with a CPU clock and I'm trying to minimize BSOD's because I'm getting a little sick of corrupted OS's.......This OCZ vertex SSD helps a little with OS reinstalls, but it's still a pain.

Hopefully it will burn on in for you, like you said it just takes a while to tweak one in, there all a little different.

How are you liking that SSD? I'd like to get a 60G myself as a bench HDD. Does it seem to speed up your benches a little? I've run SPI off unused ram before and sometimes it seemed a little faster and sometimes not, I don't know what the deal was with it.
