I got a suggestion for you, install your OS with all your stuff, then get another HDD and make a clone of that HDD, so when you burn up a OS, you can just re image the drive and have all your stuff there with in 30 minutes or so.

That's always on the list of things to buy and do......I'm sure you know how that goes.

It's just been farther down on the list of priorities than it should be. I've traditionally liked to have an XP and a Vista drive on hand (partitions don't seem to work very well) and haven't yet had a spare drive over and above that yet.....

BTW, what cloning approach do you guys like to use? Is there something better than Ghost right now?

@Ira: I think the SSD is snappier. Seems like OS and programs install quicker, but that might be just because I want them to because I bought the darn thing. I don't think it makes much difference for benches. But I have a 5i card coming and plan to eventually get a few more to RAID for some PCMark05 benching.......but that will have to be after I sell some 5870's....

Ghost is still a good one. What I do is partition a little 160G Seagate into 20G sections and just install whatever OS onto each partition, then I have a USB stick with my benches on it and just install them on each one. That way If I frag one partition I just boot on into the next and so on down the line. There just stripped OS with no web connection, so it works fine like that, I just load bench marks to a USB drive and validate on my 24/7 rig. I use XP Pro and Win 2K Server. I really need to just do them in 10G partitions thats plenty.

I like the Paragon HDD '09 Pro for making partitions, it's probably no better then any others I've just like it's interface..

I hear you on that SSD, if it doesn't it should.....I think I'll put that 30G OCZ thats a $130 or so on the list, it looks pretty fast and I could get 3 partitions on it plenty large enough to bench off of. And if it's no faster for bench I can always put a XP web runner on it.

I bet raid will speed you up a little PCMark05. Are you running Raptor bench HDD?

Trying out some new insulation techniques. Borrowed some ideas from many others, but came up with the "gasket" ideas at the pot base myself. (Doesn't mean others haven't done it before me......).

I also tried to seal the top insulation under the hold down bracket with dielectric grease. My fantasy is that the base contact will be air and water tight to the extent that I don't have to break it down after each session for a week or so. Prolly a pipe dream, but a man's gotta have dreams......

Yeah, if seen that method of insulation on vinces forums... looks pretty nice.

Is that dielectric grease in the socket, or petroleum jelly?

I'm guessing this is going to mess the motherboard up when your done? Cool stuff. BTW, someone said you can't beat 8.1GHZ on a Celeron, you need to prove him wrong :P

lol sigh, i do know how that goes. but when i first got into benching (i also have a tendancy to kill partitions lol) i used acronis.... AND IT SUCKS, then i moved to ghost, then i kept killing PCi speed related hardware lol. but for awile i had an idea of making a vista disk with all drivers slipped into the ISO, that failed when it kept asking for a file that i had no idea what the hell it did lol. but patch, your work is amazing as always and some time in the near future i will join you in the sub zero goodness. looking to get a i45 and a few cellys to play with.

PATCH!!!!!!! please change your tag from overclocker in training to GOD OF ALL THAT CLOCKS!!!!!
