I was browsing a pot gallery thread over at XS, looking at stuff from Duniek, Vince, Otter, mickeymouse, etc...and the different things people have come up with to to increase mass and surface area while still allowing LN2 close access to the chip. Pillars, holes, excavations have been used successfully. I got to thinking about ways to concentrate mass and surface area over the cores. A tiered/pyramid base from a solid copper piece with vertical holes drilled in was the simplest of my ideas, but seemed a little stupid since the LN2 wouldn't have access to the center holes (most important ones) unless you are doing full pot benching. But if you added horizontal holes on each tier, the LN2 has access to anywhere in the matrix even when only a little is poured. But you can't make horizontal holes in the base if the whole thing is solid copper. So it has to be 2 piece. More mass, more surface area and more concentration over the cores. Voila! I'll let you know how it stands up against my F1 EE. I've already thought of some improvements for the future, and if my cash and interest holds out I'd like to try out a few more ideas......if Duniek is interested, that is.

Ahh thats fantastic thinking there patch!!
I have thought about a terraced design like that before, but i never thought about how you would need a full pot. Did duniek braze the Alu to the CU? if so that is a terrific job!

brazing is not possible theoretically and practically as well its pressed together
I make leak test and it 100% leak free ![]() one more pics with family brothers and sisters lol

So what did you use to connect the two?

They are pressed together.. the two pieces are slightly different widths and they are forced together using a press

Will the differences in the expansion rates of Copper and Aluminum cause any problems
for this design ?

Shouldnt...because we arent dealing with expansion...only contraction. No heat...just cold.
