I've just installed my new motherboard (ASUS M4A78-E) and worked out some of the kinks I was having with it. The only problem left is that eventhough I have overclocked my processor to 3.1Ghz by raising the multi to 15.5, CPUZ is still showing that my processor is downclocked to 1.3Ghz with a multi of 6.75. I've attached an image that shows CPUZ values and the system screen which shows a clock of 3.10Ghz.

Any ideas on how to resolve this?

Edit. Opps, forgot to attach the picture... D'oh

I am up to my neck trying to OC my CPU.
its annoying, adding more vcore to my cpu
still doesnt work, nor adding more voltages to my RAM.
i just tried making my HT up to 2.0ghz
my NB 2400mhz. running occt for 20 minutes
and gave me a BSOD after 7 mintues.

I was having stability issues with my 965 (long story), so Newegg sent me a new chip today. I cleared the CMOS, popped it in, and noticed that the stock voltage was reporting in AOD and CPU-Z as 1.376. I restarted, opened up the BIOS, and lo and behold, it was correct. The last chip I had showed 1.4vcore stock (what AMD reports). The new(er) processor is completely stable, OC's at a lower voltage than my first C3, and is much cooler. Weird. I just purchased the other a week and a half ago.

Another thing to note was the serial number. Look, I know every serial number is different (duh), but they usually carry similar marks from similar batches. This number was way different (even the font), the instructions were different (layout, bolded), and no case sticker was included. This is a new retail version (not OEM) that shipped last night. Do you think they have already made a new improvement?

What do you all think?

I am only going to do this after i have a look at temps...ATM i am loading at 40-45C depending on room temps with 1.60V and before summer gets here i hope to have a decent water cooling setup in and ready to go

Is there a definitive article or can anyone with fact/proof comment on chip degrading at this voltage? does the voltage really matter or does it actually just come down to temps?

Hi guys,

I bought yesterday a new Phenom II 945 95W and a Mugen 2 Cooler. I'm a overclocking newbie and played a little bit with AMD Overdrive, but it crashed at random while "Auto Clock" and "Stability Test". I'm running Windows 7.
After that, I tought about overclocking within the BIOS, but as I already sayed, I have no knowlegde about overclocking ;) Because the Phenom 945 is a locked CPU, modifing the multiplier is not an option and I know, that I must modify the FSB. Mainboard is a Gigabyte GA-MA790GP-DS4H.
Can anyone give me tips, what I should do with these settings? =D

Alright, so i've done some research, and got a few of my questions answered. I still have some that i can't seem to find the answer to. I've read posts where people say it is better to increase fsb or the ref. clock vs increasing the Multiplier. Is there any truth to this? Currently i have been using the AMD overdrive v3.1 to test my settings. I have attached two separate files. One of which being a report from cpuz which is wrec-pc.txt, and the other from AMDO which is a zip file, unzip and view it via xml or if you have AMDO open it there. This is my current OC settings. Only things i've changed in these profiles is the mutiplier by default is set to 15-->18, and ive upped the ref clock from 200--> 202 and PCIe speed from 100 -->103. Is there anything i should do further to help achieve performance? My pc typically runs quite cool, and the case is very good at circulated. Idle m processor sits at around 45c. If i need to provide screen shots are anything further to help answers questions please let me know.

Also added a SS of multiple information on my mobo, ram, voltages, and my video card.

Corsair 650W power supply

I am waiting for some huge files to finish downloading so I can move all data to my 250Gb HDD. When this is done I will format my 500Gb HDD to install win 7 and then move all data to my 500Gb HDD. In the future I am planning to replace my Cpu with an AMD Phenom II 940 black edition. Also I will replace the four sticks of ram with two sticks of 2Gb dominator@1066mhz.
In the mean time if any one could give me any info/ideas on my system and how to optimize performance I would greatly appreciate it.

I have an AMD 6000 CPU, and an Asus crosshair MOBO. I find it lacking a bit and was hoping to upgrade with a mobo upgrade.

Can i run a quad core with this mobo?

Is it worth upgrading?

Should i just buy a new Mobo/Cpu/RAM (Hope not)

I just recently "upgraded"? to windows 7 from vista, 64-bit. I have a Phenom II black edition 955. When using vista, I had the processor clocked at 17.5X 200mhz putting me at about 3.5 ghz . I never had a problem, and cpu always read at around 3.5. Well...enter windows 7. when glancing at the windows experience index, I noticed that the cpu was reading very low, so I investigated. turns out, my processor was only at 4x, so I was at a speed of only 800mhz instead of stock 3.2. checked my bios, manually set to 16X made sure cool and quite was off. No luck. Bios reads 16X but in windows it is still 4X. checked bios, rolled back bios, cleared cmos, NO LUCK. Always in windows it reads 4X.

checked with CPUZ, AMD overdrive, asus AI booster, all the same. Anyone have any suggestions. Also ran Prime95 to see if multiplier or voltage changed, but nothing. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello!
I've already started a thread where this question was mentioned as offtopic but never answered. So here I ask
I have an AM2+ Socket motherboard (K9AG Neo2-Digital) and planning to move to AMD Athlon II X2 250 which is AM3 processor.
So my question is would that processor work with my motherboard?

My motherboard manufacturers say in one article that it is AM3 ready :
http://www.msi.com/html/popup/MB/45nm/en/index.html

But on motherboard's CPU Support page it don't mention the AM3 processors!

Please advise. Thanks!

Hi there first of all im new to this forum so greetings to all :),

Ive recently unlocked my phenom ii 545 X2 - x4 (but only 3 cores work)

In windows it loads fine and the system runs alot faster but it is on x3 which makes me think that the 4th core is the bad core (core 3) I have a asus M4A785-TD-M-Evo motherboard and I have recently updated the bios to the 604 version which apperently you can turn off 1 core but in the ACC but there isn't a option for it. The only problem I have with running this is that when i shut down the pc the computer turns back on and you have to swich the power off to turn it off and when it reboots nothing apears on the monitor and the hdd light stays on.

-so is there any way to disable core 3?

or

-Is there anyway to stop the computer rebooting ?

many thanks Tim

Hi everyone,

I'm about to purchase the new Athlon II X4 series to replace my old Phenom I 9950; and I was wondering, is it worth the $20 extra to get the 630? I'll be overclocking as much as possible and it'll be with G.Skill DDR2 RAM. What's your opinion?

Thanks in advance. :grouphug:
