I know there are alot of posts about this problem on asus boards, but none of them seem to be resolved and they all seem to be on older boards. I bought my M4A78-E as an ex-demo model. I figured that they would have kept it in pretty good condition so it would be worth the price.

I installed the board last night and got everything plugged in and started it up. First problem was I got a disk read error. I thought nothing of this as its a common occurance with my WD HD. Changed the boot sequence and saved. On the next power up I get this message:
Cmos Settings wrong
Cmos Date/time not set
Press F1 to Run SETUP
Press F2 to load default values and continue

I've only loaded default values once and I cant remember what the outcome was but I think it resulted in "Chassis intruded! Fatal error...system halted".
If I run setup, make the changes and save and restart I get the same message "Chassis intruded! Fatal error...system halted". At this point I cannot do anything, I have to clear the CMOS just to get into BIOS. There is no option in the bios to disable Chassis intrusion.
If I clear the CMOS and go to the BIOS and Discard changes and quit, I can get into windows but my CPU is underclocked to 1.3Ghz (multi down from 13.5 to 6.5) and windows is installing drivers for everything.

Now everyother post where someone has this problem they have Intrusion jumpers on the board. I can't see anything about this in the manual and google just brings up a plethora of results from web sites selling the board and stating it has Chassis intrusion protection. The only jumpers I can see on the board are for clearing CMOS and cpu overvolting.

As of yet I havent tried anything else but I am thinking a BIOS flash may be required.

Edit: Just found something in the manual. Will check it when I get home.

Everyone,

I'm not sure how many of you are thinking about purchasing any of the new ASUS AM3 boards, but I just wanted to inform you all of something important. If you have a newer C3 revised AMD chip, these chips will NOT work with these motherboards when they are sent to you. They are supported in the most recent BIOS update, but the motherboards are shipped with an older BIOS version. If you do not have another (non C3) AM3 chip to use to boot into to upgrade the BIOS, your system will not POST.

THIS GOES FOR ALL AM3 ASUS BOARDS. I only referenced the one in the title due to the fact I learned the hard way today after receiving this board that my processor will not work with it until the BIOS is updated. It has since been RMA'd to Newegg.

EDIT: It will supposedly take up to 6 months for the new BIOS to be implemented into the shipments.

I plugged in the 4pin and 24 pin power cables, the green standby light on my mobo turns on, but when I turn the power button on everything but what is connected to the motherboard turns on. The video card fan won't spin up, my cpu fan won't spin up, but the pump on my H50 turns on (?).
Does this sound DOA, or can you guys think of anything?

This motherboard doesn´t support 125w TDP processors, only up to 95w however I had no problems to fit my new baby 955 on it! And let me say WHAT A DIFFERENCE! This thing is amazing coming from my Q6600 (then 240 because I have sold it for a friend).

So far so good I managed to overclock it to 3.7Ghz by changing the FSB however it's BE so I could also change the multiplier right ? No, that is right, that is wrong... I can't ever lower it at all or the board wont post having to clear the cmos to make it work again which is completely RIDICULOUS!

Tried it at stock settings by playing with the multiplier, nothing works! Can't lower or raise it at all.

The NB was at 2000Mhz, HT on Auto, Memory on Auto and everything else on what I just wanted to change the multiplier but seems like I have no luck at it.

I tried to update the bios to the lastest available version but it didnt work. Any idea about what could be going on with this?

Thank you

Alright, straight to the point...
Amd 3200+ (socket 754)
Asus K8N-E Deluxe (socket 754)
Corsair 512 DDR1 400Mhz
Chieftec 380W powersupply *12v rail have 17A
80GB WD Hard Drive IDE
GF FX5900XT 128MB AGP

When I turn it on there is nothing on display, the fans spins up, green led light is on, power led light is on, no sign of hdd activity (it wont even spin up when connected to the mobo, otherwise it does), no error sound. The strange thing is that it booted once after several attempts while it was seated in the case, I started installation of Win XP and after restart it never booted again.

Things I did:
-Reseated the CPU
-Reseated memory, changed slots, used only one dim of mem, tried 3 different types of memory, tried to boot w/o memory expecting error sound.
- Unhooked everything but the CPU, GPu and power to the mobo (16 + 4 pin) and jump started with the screw driver.
- Took the battery out and reset CMOS x times.
- Took everything out of case and tested on wooden table thinking something was shoring the mobo.
- Used eraser to clean ram and video card connector
- Used 3000+ s754 from another machine that works
- Used 450w cooler master power supply
- Connected another speaker (buzzer)
- Cleaned dust with compressed air
- Reseated BIOS chip

Tested in another machine:
- CPU
- Video card
- Memory
- Monitor
- HDD
- Power supply
Everything seems to work fine in another setup with Asus K8N board.

If it managed to boot once and install windows to the point where it needed to be restarted by itself it shouldn't be defective right? The only thing I can't try is PCI video card because I don't have it.

Any ideas/suggestions are welcome!!!

Thanks in advance.

p.s. I've checked every inch of the motherboard and there is no capacitors leakage, all caps seem to be OK, no burn marks or burnt silicon smell, nothing seems damaged or broken, no cracks on PCB.

I'm not sure what the differences are, but they seem about the same thing.

Anyway, I'm looking to replace this POS motherboard with something nice. It's gotta have ACC to unlock the 4th core on my CPU, and actually allow me to change voltages (unlike this one :p)

But the newegg reviews (I know, I know, I'm supposed to ignore them) put me off a little bit.

Is there another board I should be going for? Another brand? These seem really nice, especially for how much they cost.

I'm trying to stay in the $100 - $120 range.

Any input would be just awesome. :D Thanks!

Edit: It's gotta use DDR2, too. My last unresearched mobo buy got me burned. :( Awful board overall.

This is an upgrade from my MA770T. The difference is that this board as 2x PCIe x16 (x8 x8 xFire). With the current offerings, I plan on upgrading to AMD sometime in the next year or so. However, in the time being, I want to get a cheap card to use in addition to my 260 as a PhysX processor. Since I am not using xFire, if I add a PhsyX card to the second x16 slot, will I still be limited to x8 x8? I hope you understand what I'm talking about. I don't want my main card to have the PCIe bus halved to have a PhysX chip. I googled around, and the only thing I've heard is that the motherboard only switches to x8x8 during crossfire. Other than that, they will both be x16.

Does anyone know if this will work?

Well Speedfan says my NB is at 76c right now under load :( thats my highest though and its usually been between 70-75c

I have the CPU-NB voltage set to 1.355v as i know thats a stable 3 hour voltage and i want to eliminate any of my other hardware/voltages/clocks as unstable...i may be able to go lower

I am not sure off the top of my head what the NB(Not CPU-NB Voltage) is set at but i will check it soon

What should i set my NB Voltage at(NOT CPU-NB Voltage) in the bios to?

I am aiming for 2.6Ghz on the NB since i can't get much more out of my OC with the vcore at 1.55v and 1.53v/1.52v according to cpu-z/bios

I was thinking about picking one of these (link) up to put on my NB as the dr.mos unit doesn't seem to be keeping it cool enough BUT removing the stock NB cooler would mean i have no heatsink over the mosfets :(

Is here a decent cheap mosfet cooler for my board?

I would love to install the northbridge cooler since it'd match my CPU cooler and help with the temps on top of that :D but leaving out my mosfets sounds like a definite no no...

I have a P2 X4 940. I want to know what is the best mobo i can get for it.
I want to overclock so that's a plus function. and watercool, which i don't think is a problem for any mobo.

I have been eyeing DFI's Lanparty M2RSH. It looks really good. has generally a good review but also bad ones of people receiving bad stocks. I really like how it doesn't have an internal graphics and it supports both Nvidia and AMD, which is a real plus plus.

But as i read the other threads, People keep saying the ASUS is better? i don't know... I haven't really looked in the other brands like MSI or Gigabyte. but if you think that they are better, then post it up!

Thanks for you help!
P.S the dfi mobo is on at newegg for 30$ discount and free shipping which is another ++

I guess the question is what is the best mobo for my 940?

Hello all.

I have a problem with stability on a K9A2 CF-F mobo. I run the HT at 240MHz, and since I use Corsair XMS2 PC6400 CL4 memory,I try to set the divider to 1:1 or 1:1.33, but it doesn't matter which one I choose, the POST screen shows the mem to be clocked to 960MHz no matter what.
And as soon as I have booted into Windows 7, the DualCore Center shows that the HT is 6-70MHz or 470 ( ! ) MHz, and the computer reboots with a 1) BAD POOL HEADER, 2) MEMORY MANAGMENT ERROR, or 3) IRQ_L LESS OR EQUAL error.
I have BIOS 1.A installet, and use a Athlon II 620 Quad CPU for the board.

Does anyone have a clue what's wrong?
