With the big digital switch over underway I need to find a card that will let me watch UK digital TV, and preferably have a program guide so I can set it to record programs that are on every week etc. Needs to be PCI though (unless its built into a GPU) as I'll be hooking it up to my tv with either HDMI or DVI not decided yet. Probably the former.

Low cost preferred and remote would be welcome!
Running on Windows XP.

So hit me up with suggestions or links to somewhere I can find decent reviews please. :3

Mucho love it you could find one available at Microdirect, Novatech or Scan!

It's still in beta and only has 6 free apps on board, but it looks to have the potential to be something similar to the apple store. Some of you may find it interesting enough to follow and see how it develops. I think it would be cool to see this explode into something like the apple store. It would make for some interesting and useful apps to integrate into Media Center.

Wrapping up all the pieces to my HTPC - anyone have any thoughts on remotes?

I figure I will want to go wireless KB for convenience - but price has to match value otherwise I can drag out a keyboard from my closet...

Any personal favs?

System will be running Windows 7 Pro 64bit if it matters any.

Currently the only two remotes that have caught my attention are:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-003-_-Product

I like the look and comments on it but it doesn't appear to have any mouse function?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...APC%20HTPCKB-B

Pricier but RF... although some comments claim problems with mapping keys...

Or would something like this suffice?

http://www.tronicsroom.com/ionescorp...ss-t24789.html

Do most of you find the remote being the better solution or a keyboard - or is the combo the best route?

Any helpful comments or tips welcomed!

Ok, so I have decided to finally delve into the HTPC world. I am not building one from scratch but instead using my sig rig and turning it into an HTPC. The kind of setup that I hope to achieve is:

*Plays Blu-Rays

*Plays pandora, hulu, etc.

*DVR or PVR (not sure what the difference is)

*Hardcore Gaming

*Still want it hooked up to my Monitor at the same time as the TV

*Harmony Remote Control to work with my Harmon Kardon reciever and my PC

*I would like it to work with Cable TV/ HD Channels via a TV Tuner Card? (Not sure how to setup or what QAM or anything is. Very new to this lol)

*Very high quality Audio

*Do not want tons of cables

*Able to still surf the web

*Pick up as many channels as possible

So, I have found a couple things that I think look pretty good but I would really like your opinions on them. Here they are:

Samsung LN52B750

LG Blu-ray Drive + DVD Burner

ASUS Xonar HDAV1.3 Slim

Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2250 Dual TV Tuner / Encoder 1229 PCI-Express x1 Interface

Western Digital 5000AAKS x3 (already have 1)

Logitech Harmony 880 Pro

What are the different frequencies can you get?

How do you get them?

Is it good to have multiple Tuner cards? Why?

What is a good HTPC Software? I read reviews on Windows 7's media center and am looking in that direction.

Whats the easiest way to set this all up?

Thanks in advance and Rep+ to anyone who gives constructive criticism/good advice.

Nice forum you got here! So I just bought my first flatscreen. LG 42LH40 and I'd like to clean up the hardware side so that I only have to run one cable up the wall to the TV. I have an enclosed entertainment center so I went with a mid tower case to save some money and also to allow for a large video card down the road as I also would like to game on the new TV. My other question is about sound card options. I would like to eliminate my receiver and amp if possible. I saw that MSI Diva mobo with the powered 5.1 outs but I cant fit a decent video card in that micro-atx board. Is there a sound or pci card equivalent? I will be using Windows 7 media center. Is there any other software I will need? Will ATI Radeon HD 3300 support blue-ray play back at 1080p? Will the Athlon II X3 425 2.7GHz bottle neck a SAPPHIRE 100282SR Radeon HD 5850 1GB?

Well it has been a little while since I have gotten my tech fix... I just finished wiring the house with cat6 but I want to create a small HTPC/Entertainment server. But the wife is 3 months pregnant so getting any costs past her either requires I go ultra cheap OR can convince her it will be worth the expense.

I just recently managed to convince her that if we purchased flat screens to wall mount we would open up space in the living room and bedroom for baby furniture (it was a win because we then purchased a nice Sears pre-Black friday sale).

Now I am hoping to use the HTPC/Entertainment server for the following.
•	Blu Ray player
•	digitize or rip and store all of our current VHS movies and DVD movies (to save space and archive)
•	Rip and consolidate all of our music CD's (same as above)
•	Consolidate both of our iTunes libraries and mp3's for play through home stereo system.
•	Play Netflix Instant watch movies.

I do not need it to output HD audio (yet). Currently the HDTV's are only 720p and the need for 1080p might not crop up for a few years so don't know if that affects components either.
I am not looking for a specialized case as the space the HTPC would be located in is: h 17.5" x w 11.5" x d 19"

A simple and clean standup case would suffice. Someone pointed out the Toaster for example previously, although I am open to other ideas.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...ech-_-11110001

•	CPU - I have an old 939 AMD64 3500+ laying around but not sure if that would be enough or if I could find a decent MB
•	Case -
•	PSU -
•	MB -
•	RAM - I have 3gb of low latency PC3200 - but again not sure if worth using or opting for DDR2 instead.
•	HD -
•	OS - I have access to Windows Home 7 "Upgrade" disc for $30.00, is there better? Setup needs to be non-tech person friendly, wife is not a tech person in the least.
•	Video Card - is IGP enough? or would I need to purchase a card

The final question is would I just be better off going for something like a Dell Zino HD for what I plan on currently instead?

Okay well my dedicated server has evolved...

First it was a small box dedicated to hosting game servers. Now it does FTP for my personal stuffs, and also hosts as a file download machine so I dont need to keep my dekstop on all night when i download stuffs (just throttle the downloader so gameservers aren't affected)

Now I brought it to my home and hit the HDMI port to my 55" LCD TV and got a wireless keyboard and mouse for it... I currently use the keyboard to control FOOBAR to play music, browse the internet on my couch, and chat with people..
Also using it to watch movies I download right onto this machine as it is a 1080p TV :D and I got MPC-HC for my mkv needs ;)

So... now I just ran the installer for CS:S, GMOD, and couple other games... Its running a Phenom 9950BE @ 3.0 and IGP HD3200 for video...

Any chance of putting a video card in this thing when I'm usinga 350W PSU? Its got great amperage on the +12V Rails (two) so I bet it is capable of a good video card...

Now I don't want a video card that is gonna be roaring loud at idle or moderate load... when gaming, I don't care as much, but noise is still a concern.

What 'decent' gaming video cards have worked in an HTPC? Mind you, something like a 9600GT is quiet, but won't push a 1080p screen for a game like TF2 or newer racing sims

TL;DR: Video cards that idle quietly in an HTPC but provide power to push 1080p gaming

OK, since I rarely game anymore and most of the time my PC is just making noise and generating heat, I was thinking of building an HTPC and using any extra cash I can get from selling some of my old stuff for a new TV.

Here's my issue. I am not sure what to keep and what to sell and buy new. I figure I have 4 options:

1) Sell my current sig and buy all new stuff. (excluding PSU, RAM and hdd)

2) See most of my current set-up. (CPU, GFX, cooling etc.)

3) Just sell my cooling and get something quieter and just underclock it.

4) Just save up and buy the HTPC stuff.

Now, I know I don't need a quad for an HTPC or a discrete GFX card. I am just unsure if selling it would benefit me in the long run. There is no sense in me selling my sig used at a loss just to afford the new parts.

What would you do in my shoes? Keep in mind, money is especially tight for me for the next 4-5 months.

I'm trying to pick hardware for an HTPC. I'm not concerned about budget as I want the best performance and realize that will come at a cost. I have a surround sound system now so I'll require a motherboard with a decent quality onboard audio to input via either coaxial/optical cable into the receiver.

The HTPC will need to be able to play Blu-ray, Video/Music from a network share on my QNAP TS439.

I'll require a TV tuner as I plan to primarily use the box as a PVR.

My home network is a full gig network.

To keep costs down, if a motherboard can be recommended that has an onboard graphics chip (like the nVidia 9300) with HDMI(I plan to connect to my TV via HDMI) that would be acceptable.

My primary concerns are:
1) My 40" LED TV sits 8 feet from my couch so the computer needs to be quiet, the fans need to be barely audible yet still provide cooling performance.
2) I'd like the HTPC to be as small as possible. Preferably no larger than mATX.
3) I'd like the HTPC to draw as little power as allowable as it will be left on 24/7 for recording video.

Thank you for any help and rep+ to those that take the time to help me out.

So - I have the 4890 xfx card, one DVI is connected to my monitor, and the HDMI cable is connected to the TV. I can't get them to recognize to duplicate the screens anymore. It seems it takes about 30 minutes of plugging and unplugging to get it to recognize.

In CCC when I hit detect displays, nothing shows up 99% of the time (like I said above, after about 30 minutes of shutting the TV off/on and replugging the cords in it'll maybe work).

When I plug the HDMI cable in my screen on my desktop flashes, and CCC seems to flash really quick, but nothing.

I've toyed around with display options "force tv detect" and "force component video detection" and neither seem to do the trick.

Anyone had similar problems, or have any idea how to fix this?

Poker night / street figher 4 night tomorrow and i'd like to have the plasma up and going w/out the stress :D

Thanks!

...quite a sad start for a case build but not the end of the world either... So lets move on to building on the eye skills and lets see what happens in between, probably will encounter some funny problems as i go, but its always good to have a neat challenge.

On my last week in UK i managed to get my hands on the so expected Dual-Atom N330 Mini-ITX board from Zotac. Why Zotac? I think zotac is a very good manufacturer as they product are simply rock n' roll on quality build.
Does anyone know how to fix the "The PlayReady update was incomplete" error in Window Media Center? PlayReady is DRM and is needed for TV Tuners to work. I have gotten this issue once before but it was about 16 months ago.

I know about the update package but it won't fix the issue: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

I'm at work so I can't check most forums/blog sites talking about the issue. Thanks for the help.

I admittedly didn't do much research into the psu or wireless keyboard, so I was curious if anyone knew of improvements in that departments. I'd imagine 400w is overkill... I have spare ram, and a tb drive lying around, so I didn't include those below.

Case: SILVERSTONE Black Aluminum / Steel LC13B-E ATX Media Center / HTPC Case - Retail
Motherboard: DFI LP JR GF9400-T2RS LGA 775 NVIDIA GeForce 9400 HDMI Micro ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

CPU: Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5400 Wolfdale 2.7GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor Model BX80571E5400 - Retail

Sound: ASUS Xonar HDAV1.3 Slim 24-bit 192KHz PCI Interface Audio Card with True Blu-ray Audio Designed to Fit All Home Theater PCs - Retail

BD: LG Black 8X BD-ROM 16X DVD-ROM 40X CD-ROM SATA Internal Combo LG Blu-ray Reader & 16X LightScribe DVD±R DVD Burner - Retail

PSU: CORSAIR CMPSU-400CX 400W ATX12V V2.2 80 PLUS Certified Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply - Retail

Mostly interested in playing bluray with the occasionally local archived 1080p video. No real budget, but I was hoping to keep the price as low as possible without sacrificing much in the way of picture or audio quality.

HDMI Video Out -> Xonar HDMI In -> Xonar HDMI Out -> Receiver HDMI In

Any thoughts?
