Oh, I'm using two Xiggy XLFs, one on the HDT-S1283 and one for top exhaust, both running at 7V and a Noctua NF-P12-1300 running full speed as rear exhaust.

I went down the bar this morning and was looking at the wine bottles and got to drinking , what if.....
and this is what I came up with.

Things you will need.
A sharp knife and 6 to 8 corks, get drinking. :D

I cut a couple down to 22mm (for my wedges) which was just slightly larger than needed. (the tighter the better)

The columns . These support perfect when sitting on the DVD drive. Some corcks come a little bit rounded on the ends, just trim a mm or 2 to get that flat support.

Finally jam those side wedges in place.

This one takes very little time and reduces HD vibration substantially.

my computer is now in my living room pulling double duty as computer and media streaming to my tv. i have a P180, and it's pretty quiet, but i'd like it quieter. i have a slight overclock, nothing major, my ram heats up the most out of everything. i have the 2 stock 120mm fans on the top and rear on the low setting. i have a AC 120mm fan in the middle of the lower chamber, i have another AC 120mm in the front upper slot. i have a tuniq tower and it's turned all the way down.

i would imagine that the only fans that i'm hearing is the top and rear fans. what are my options for quieting this thing down? i was thinking of going with a small WC setup, however, i'm concerned with ambient temps and the ram, as well as mounting the radiator and the fan noise from that.

Hey all.

The HD was the noisiest part of my PC. I looked around and couldn't find any of those HD silencer kits. Looking at the packaging on my tdt player I got to thinking , and this is what I came up with.

I placed a HD cooler on it as it's going up to the 5.25 bay.

Trimming up the ends.

and finaly cut a few wedges to secure it. This does not move .

I noticed the difference straight away. :thumb:

Until just recently I was using two 3000rpm ultra kazes on my case, one on the 120mm exhaust port on the back and one on my CPU cooler. I decided that the noise was extremely irritating since where I sleep is 6 feet from my computer. It's much quieter now with my tri-cools on low, the kazes out of the system with the stock geminII fan in place. However, I would like to make it quieter, I've heard that people can get systems where the only noise you hear is HDD seek noise!

Any suggestions? I'm open to just about anything, perhaps even replacing the case since I heard that the antec 900 is pretty noisy, I'd rather not though.

Addition: I'd also like to mention that I had a 3.6GHz overclock on my CPU with my previous setup, I'd like to get near that again if possible while having a relatively quiet build.

Air turbulance is your enemy

So you want to quiet your system. How do you do that? Buy ultra quiet fans? Sound deaden the inside of your case? Sure those will help. But I have 6 120mm fans, a 140mm fan and a 80mm fan, not including my psu fan. And it is easily the quietest system I have ever built. Why? I eliminated air turbulence.
4 of my 120's are these. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-062-_-Product
One is a Xigy stock that came with my heatsink, one is a CM standard system fan, the 140 stock with the case, and a Dell fan I yanked out of an old system.

In this photo I have 2 120's and a fan controller. The top fan is mounted in my 5.25 cage. Their is nothing to impede the air flow so at full speed it is very quiet. The bottom fan has the heavy steel mesh which is common in a lot of cases. This one at full speed is noisy. Since it is mostly for hdd cooling, I leave it on a low setting.

This is my side fan. The original window that came with my case had vents the fan mounted behind. This created the bulk of my system noise and it was high pitched. I made a new window, eliminating the vents. Now at full speed the fan is very quiet.

This is the 80mm fan I have mounted between the vid card and my psu. I removed the PCI cover plates. This allows any trapped heat in this area to be exhausted. This is a quiet fan so I run it at full speed.

My main back exhaust sits behind heavy steel mesh like the front lower, so at full speed it is noisy. This I leave at low speed. The 140 is very quiet by design so I leave that at full speed.
So I removed anything that I could that would create air turbulance and those I couldn't I left at low speed. My hsf's are mobo controlled and run at low speed. With everything on low my system is literally half as loud as my wifes which uses only 2 system fans. Hope this helps when you decide how you set up your fans for quiet running.
