I wanted to make two partittions on my external maxtor harddrive. One will be for time machine and one will be data exchange between my custom rig and my macbook. Before my hardrive came configured as a pure mac harddrive so it didn't work on my pc. I already erased all the data on the drive with disk utility, but what is the best way to make the two partitions. If it's disk utility which partition type do I have to choose. there are different mac os choices one 'free space' choice and one windows NT file system choice.
thanks for the help

Thank you!

In the laptop area anything to be had for not a penny over $1000.00 tax included? Apps will be word processing only,I will be doing my CS4 work on a PC as I just can't afford a desktop Mac but always wanted a laptop so it might as well be a Mac so I get OS experience for the Macs at school.

I will never throw away the enjoyment that working with PC hardware brings me, I will just have both and never open up the laptop. Thanks in advance.

Some great Leopard and SnowLeopard tutorials on Lynda.com.

Admins: I am making a second and third thread in hopes of getting some different perspectives in different sub forums.

The points I am planning on making:

first paragraph after into will be about ad campaigns and society's reaction

Macs
Pros
less viruses (for now)
simple UI (kids)
some good graphical design and media design programs

Cons
less upgradable
price
programming
online tech support communities (maybe)

Windows
Pros
Far more programs available
Price
customizable
online tech support communities (maybe)
upgradeable/ able to built with variety
gaming
business
variates
overclocking (not sure if i want to get this in depth with my English teacher :) )

Cons
viruses (I will explain about being smart with computers)
required resources
larger learning curve (kids)
variates

Linux will be my conclusion :)

OSX forces any application to use all (in this case it would be 8 cores) its not an application thing (like with a PC) but an OS technique.

Can anyone add to the technique used by the Mac OS in regards to managing the cpu's? (as you can tell all I do with mac's is use them in class), they are dual 2.8 Xeon 4gb DDR2 800mhz machines).

I also wondered why the slower memory with the Mac.

Hey everyone,

I installed a copy of the Windows 7 BETA on my girlfriends Macbook Pro about 6 or more months ago and since school has started she asked me to remove it since it is not being used anymore since the BETA expired.

I used the Apple Bootcamp to remove the partition but here is my problem, every time the computer is restarted, or shutdown and booted up it goes to what I assume is the windows MBR and produces an error saying something like "No media to boot from, please insert a windows disk".

Is there any way to make it so you don't have to hold control everytime the computer boots up to get into the Mac OS?

Also, the mac OS is the only hard drive listed so I don't know what it's booting into.

Thanks!
