It happens to the best of us: we get seduced by some sleek ultramodern furniture design and forget to factor in what it will look like when we add cables, cords and other peripherals that have become essential in this age of electronic and digital technology. This idea solves the problem from the other direction: rather than boasting an initially simple design, it relies on your actions after-the-fact to transform a messy desk into a brilliantly clean workspace.

Anyways, what kind of advice can some of you give me on getting my space cleaned up? Right now, I've got no money, zip, nada, nothing. I do have a bunch of zipties though, etc. But I don't think those will help any as this is a glass desk.

Is it possible to overall your office/setup area for $1000 or less while still upgrading the computer?

Here is a sketch of my room.

Is it possible to overall your office/setup area for $1000 or less while still upgrading the computer?

Here is a sketch of my room.

I was thinking of moving the desks to the center of the room, on the back wall. Have one l-shaped at one end and then a straight middle desk then another l-shaped desk at the other end. Move my bed to the corner where the desks are now and then setup my home theater area (surround sound, tv, etc) where the bed is now. And then get rid of the fuse ball (pool table in the image).

So, I would have it like this.

I was thinking of doing this for my rig upgrade:

- New Case (HAF 932) - $140
- New Mobo (2x PCIE16 slots) - $120
- Second GTX260 - $180 - Or a cheaper 2x DVI output PCI card
- 3x 22" LCDs - $160 each (matching ones + current one)

Then for desks, since mine is on the edge of giving way, buy this one:

I also wanted to get a new TV, but I guess that'll have to wait til later unless I get some more money. So, not including that.

Suggestions?

I'm looking for a bookshelf or something to hold things like books, DVD cases, game cases, and any other similarly shaped things (box shaped? rectangular prism shaped?). I' not really looking for racks with slots where cases are slid into place; I can't really stick my physics textbook into them. Plus, I want the option of being able to store other random things onto the shelf.

So far I've been looking at plain old bookshelves since they fit my criteria, but I was wondering if any of you guys know of anything fancier since I'm sure someone where has a collection of games going all the way back to the NES (or whatever was made before my time).

Also, I'm not allowed to nail anything into the wall unless they're like thumbtack sized nails that leave barely visible holes.

Well, any suggestions?

Inspired by the deskputer (it had some guy's bigass water aquarium thing next to a water-cooling loop built into the guy's desk along with his mobo - found it here) I saw somewhere else, I want to make a minimalistic-ish air cooling variant of this.

I dub it "Project Wind Tunnel". :D

meticadpa has kindly put his sketchup skills to the task of the conceptual drawings which, so far, yield just these two pics - a 100% wood construction variant and the second, wood for the desk parts and acrylic for the wind tunnel hutch part.

If anyone knows more about airflow engineering than I do I would appreciate comments on mobo orientation, etc. I plan to put two 120mm fans in front and two in back. The dimensions are as follows:

Desk top - 3 feet by 5 feet (approx)
Desk height - 2.5 feet (approx)
Wind Tunnel hutch - 1 foot by 1.5 feet by 3 feet

So far this is purely at the conceptual stage. I ultimately plan to budget about $500 for this come next year as I acquire supplies and convince my dad to help lend his tool-using expertise to the task. :D

It's slowly slowing down, games aren't loading on and off, I get errors when I OC my GTX275 by even 1MHz, I can't play many games a 3.2GHz 2x+GTX275 should be able too, when I play many demanding games my BIOS (for whatever reason) fries, and I have to reset it every day. Yes I just re-installed windows a month ago, it continues to suck.

I think it's time for a near completely, 80%(keep HDD+gfxcrd that's only 4 months old), new system. Your thoughts? Or should I just *ahem* buy(YEAH RIGHT, BUY THATS FUNNY!) a new OS. O noes microsoft don't murder me!
Might aswell spec since I have no life...
AMD Athlon 64 x2 6400+
WD caviar blue 500GB 7200RPM(fast as hell on paper but for some reason like 100KB/s in practice)
EVGA GTX 275
Raidmax sagitta II
Antec EA650 PSU
MSI (idk but it has a 95W TDP and can somehow run my 125W CPU)

Also am curious because I have a very very vague idea of custom building a desk with a sort of "wind tunnel" cabinet (Air cooling! :D ) where a mobo would be along with attendant parts. Well, the acrylic to look down onto the mobo would weaken the top of the desk, but by how much? Knowing the load tolerance would help a lot.

Any info would be appreciated. :)

Some printers I've read have issues when you refill their cartridges and require a separate cartridge to alternate in order to bypass the refill check because the companies want you to buy entirely new cartridges as replacements.

Stand-Alone printers or all in one printers doesn't matter much.

There doesn't seem to be a thread or club dedicated for those like myself who run multiple setups in their room. Whether it be for folding, or simply dedicated systems for dedicated purposes, I would love to start an official thread for those who run at least two systems in the SAME room...

Obviously, a lot of us would be a multi-system runners if it was meant for multiple computers throughout the household, but I was more interested in how is it done in the same room.

I currently run 5 computers in my home office right now, and I will post my pics shortly once I clean it up a bit. In detail...

1. i7 920 @ 4.3Ghz - Asus P6T Deluxe V2 - 12GB Corsair RAM - 2x GTX260s SLI - 32" LG 1080p LCD Monitor - Windows 7 64Bit Ultimate - Primary Gaming PC

2. i7 920 @ 4.0Ghz - Asus P6T Deluxe V2 - 12GB OCZ Reaper - 1x GTX260 MSI Lightning 1782Mb - 1x 9800GT - 3x Samsung 23" LCD - Windows 7 64Bit Ultimate - Primary Work PC

3. C2D E8400 @ 4.14Ghz - Asus P5K Deluxe - 4GB GSkill Pi - 1x 8800GT - 1x Samsung 24" LCD - Windows 7 64Bit Pro - 24/7 Light Load PC

4. C2D 8400 @ Stock - MSI P45 Neo - 4GB Kingston RAM - 6x SATA Seagate 500GB HDDs - 1x 500GB WD IDE HDD - 17" Planar Touchscreen LCD - Windows Server 2008 Standard - Home Server

5. Apple C2D 2.16Ghz Macbook Pro - Snow Leopard and XP Pro - Laptop

I would love to get this started, so start posting your setups with Pics, if at all possible.

Thanks.

Also, any information on how to make this thread official would be greatly appreciated, or how to start a CLUB would be even better.

It did this several times in a short period. Now it has only done it a couple of times in the last several days. What does it sound like?

If anyone owns it what do you think of it? Is it decent quality?

My current desk is huge and a bit of an annoying shape, it's a corner desk but with an irregular curve, the size is 161cm by 121cm a little to big, I'm looking for something a little more sleek as this one is a light wood colour, and fits with nothing in my room.

Thanks in advanced for any help you have to offer :)
Pic of desk I'm trying to find:
We Had To Track Down Connectors For The CPU, And Luckly I Still Had The 3Pin Connector For The Vid Card In The Box Still :)
And I STILL DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH Molex's To Power My Dvd Drive!!!
Here is The Results:

Y3K With 2 Molex's Going Into 1 8Pin Connector To Power My Qx6700...

Almost Done, Pulled The DVD Drive. (When We Noticed We Were 1 Short A Molex)

And Then I Raped And Pillaged A Poor Old 1998(ish) External CD Drive I Found, And Put My DVD Burner In It, Now My DVD Drive Is Powered From The Wall, And Transfers Via USB... :ninja:

You Gotta Give Me Credit For The Solution :D

PS: Reason I Have 2 Ide's >.> The Guy I Was Working For At The Local Computer Store Cheeped Me Out 2 SATA II Hard Drives...So I'm Stuck With A 40 + 120 Ide... >.>

It has been a while since I purchased a new gaming computer and I got a lot of help on forums building my last one so I am hoping to get some more help with this one.

My current rig is below:

CPU
AMD Phenom II X4
940 @ 3.0Ghz
Motherboard
Asus M3A78-Pro Motherboard
Memory
4GB DDR2 GSkill Dual Channel Memory Kit
Graphics Card
BFG GTX 285 OC Edition @ 666Hz
Hard Drive
Some Terrible 300GB Hard Drive
Sound Card
Motherboard HD Audio
Power Supply
700W OCZ GameStream
Case
NZXT Apollo Full Tower Case
CPU cooling
Stock
GPU cooling
Stock
Operating System
Windows XP 64 Bit
Monitor
HP w2007 22" Wide Monitor

Now I think I have decided to go with Intel this time around. I realize the costs are a lot higher but for performance I think it wins!

I have compiled a list of parts/products as seen below. I am not ready to purchase these items as I still need 2 weeks or so to get the amount of money in the bank but I am starting to get a good idea of the good products out there.

$3000 Intel Build - Core i7 920 w/ Asus P6T Deluxe v2.0

$4000 Build - Core i7 975 w/ Asus P6T Deluxe v2.0

-----------------------------------------------

So that is what I have come up with so far for Intel builds. This build would be a computer that I hope will last a very long time and be a top performer in all the games to come. I do have a few questions / concerns I would like to have answered as I am still semi-new to building my own computers.

1) I want to have a SLI setup and I currently have a GTX 285. I didn't really want to buy 2 new GTX 295's so I opted to just use my current GTX 285 and buy an identical one and run them in SLI. Is it worth investing in 2 new video cards to run in SLI or Crossfire?

2) My current GPU makes a whining / high pitched dog whistle noise when under high load. I wear headphones so its not a big deal but I was wondering if there was a way to remove this noise. I read lots of people have similar issues and its just coil vibrations which is normal.

3) Do you think I should goto Intel or stick with AMD? I have always been an AMD person due to their good price per quality ratio. This would be my first Intel build.

4) After looking at both my Intel builds do you see anything you would change? I want a top notch quality enthusiast/gamer/photoshop computer that I won't want to replace for at least 2-3 years.

5) Do you think I should use any parts from my current system on my next platform to save $$? I posted my specs above and it is a fairly decent system. I did want to try DDR3 Memory tho

6) Is Windows 7 worth buying @ that price?

7) Is it worth investing in a Solid State Drive? The only concern I had was the size of them. I download quite a bit so I would need the space! Also I have no idea what Raid0 setup means so please do explain

-------------

Basically I will have lots more questions / concerns to talk about on this thread. I am about to invest a huge sum of money and I want the best performance I can get!

Please review both builds as well as my current build and let me know what suggestions you have for upgrades. I know a lot of you have tons of experience with building so that is why I am here.

I look forward to your product choices whether it be an AMD or Intel build

Thanks
