Figured I'd start a thread we could post preliminary runs and talk about what AM3 likes and what doesn't help.

Well, I can say OCing my 9600GT does nothing for me. It appears that AM3 is bottlenecked badly by the CPU. This is good news for those who where worried about having low end GPUs.

Here are some runs with GPU at stock vs and decent OC. Actually lost a few points with my card OC'd.

OCN Benching competition- Single GPU, Aquamark3..revised

This contest will be focused on boosting our HWBot ranking for AquaMark3. Rules will be simple...

1. Runs will be made using only 1x GPU [so X2's will have to use only 1x core]

2. Scores will be tallied for the highest score in each bracket, as well as the highest GPU and CPU scores for the comp.

3. Limit 3x submissions per person [per bracket] for the duration of the contest...so 'tune' carefully ;). No limit to # of class' enteredYou might want to keep a high score in reserve..

4. Screen shots must show the following to be considered valid: paint shot of the AM3 score..GPU-Z..CPU-Z and your name. Those that submit benchies for the OCN hwbot team, will be eligible for prizes.

Brackets for competition will be as follows:

* Xtreme Class
* i7 Class
* i5 Class
* Intel Quad Class
* Intel Dual Class
* AMD X4 Class
* AMD X3 Class
* AMD X2 Class

Prize breakdown and winnings, per bracket:

High score
1st place- 20$
2nd place- 10$
3rd place- applique$

Overall Awards:

Highest CPU score
1x winner- 25$ and OCN applique

Highest GPU score
1x winner- 25$ and OCN applique

*as mentioned previously in pre-thread discussion... Aquamark3 is CPU bound...so DO NOT get discouraged by your GPU. :thumb: There is little to no difference in results when comparing a GTX260 to a GTX285, or a 4870 to a 5870...so long as CPU speed is constant. You will be wise to focus on tuning for latency, at your highest stable CPU speed.... :sneaky:

Last but not least, some prizes and cash has already been donated for winnings...they will be added into the winnings and distributed with the rest of the winnings.

New bench-contest...prize donations..?

Well guys, it has been over 3x weeks and i still have no approval from admin on prizes or budget...no RE from the managing editors either....so I am taking matters into my own hands. :swearing:

1.- I will be donating 20$ and whatever else I can to sponsor the next benching competition.

2.- I would like to know [before launching the thread] if any others have items/cash that they can 'pledge' in good faith as a prize.

3.- If you have something to contribute..please post..if you are in support of running in the comp, even without OCN sponsored prizes, please post. I need to gauge just how many people will be interested in running.

**Just to be fair- the next comp is scheduled to be a single GPU only event...with the same CPU brackets for comp as the last competition. We will NOT be benching any Futuremark products ;)

I just joined the HWBot team :D and I have a few questions

When it says

Do I need to bother with screen shots or just sending the link is enough.

I have to redo some benchies because I had Physx enabled >_< Any tips or tricks I should know of to get a better score (besides OCing the hell outa my comp)?

HWbot category qualification GPU question

I was scowing the craigslist near me and I discovered an 8800gt (PNY 512mb) that comes with a full cover waterblock for 100$ (I was going to try to talk him down if I got it)

Right now I have an 8800gt 256mb that managed to get me 1 hardware cup bios modded so I was debating if I should try to go sli and go for another cup if all possible. The thing is with having a 256mb card and a 512mb card exclude me from the 256mb 8800gt category when posting w/ gpu-z and vantage's results

I know the 512mb will only use 256 mb but if it takes me out of the running because of a technicality then it's not worth the money and trouble of bios flashing and or hardware voltmodding again

any ideas?

After weeks of BSODs and lock ups ive managed to finally post my 920 above 4.7mhz

thanks patch for suggesting the pci clock bump, time for some pi runs :)

too bad this comes a week after the time challege :/
