Seperate GPU for Folding?

Well I have a 5870 for my main GPU but was wondering if there was a way to put in my spare 3870 and have it folding 24/7 completely separate. I've tried before and only the first slot was recognized when I tried to fold therefore it didn't work. Yet the GPU was recognized in MSI Afterburner. Anyway to do this?

I am currently cranking out about 18000PPD from my sig rig, sometimes going to 19000. My CPU is cranking out just under 1500 PPD. Would setting up a vmware client for SMP give me more PPD? I would like to break 20000PPD if possible. My GPU clocks are 680 core, 1530 shader, and 1188 memory.

GPU client not submitting WU!

Ok, I know this question has been addressed before, but I couldn't find anything via the search. My last 4 or 5 GPU work units stop at 100%... they just plain don't submit. So I close out of the gpu-fah, then reopen, and it's back at 0/xxxxx. How can I fix this problem, permanently? I think I've submitted only a handful of GPU WU's in the last couple of months, which is sad... I want those points!

So I am back to folding. Sadly I had to sell my 2 260s but I have 2 8800GS that pump out some good PPD and cant wait to get a GT300 one it comes out and I get out of boot camp. I should hit 600,000 by next week.;) Fold on.

Problems with -forceasm

I put the -forceasm flag on my GPU client and now it keeps hanging my PC. It affects the whole of Windows 7, whenever I try to close something it doesn't close, the process just sits there. This first happened with Project 5912, where it hung at I think it was 70-something%, and now I left my machine to work on Project 5906 for about 3 hours and when I came back it had only got to 34%.

I just wanted to see if the flag would boost efficiency or increase PPD, but if it's just gonna hang all my WU's then I don't see the point.

What does it actually do?

Spontaneous Unexpected Reboots

I am running 2 clients on my Windows 7 machine. One GPU on my new EVGA GTX260 (beats the pants off my former twin 3870s!!), and folding 4 cores with SMP in VMWare Player (Notfred's).

The problem is that every time I leave the computer alone for a while, it reboots itself, no BSOD, nothing in particular worrisome in the Event Log, except for this series of 4 events:

Event 4 from VMnetuserif:
(\Device\VMnetUserif) Driver entry exiting with status 0
Event 1 from VMnetuseif:
() Starting up the User Interface Driver for VMware Virtual Networks
Event 7023 from Service Control Manager:
The VMware USB Arbitration Service service terminated with the following error:
A device attached to the system is not functioning.
Error 7036 from Service Control Manager:
The VMware USB Arbitration Service service entered the stopped state.

The reason I suspect these to be related to the reboots are that I did have a few BSOD's a couple weeks ago and in the call stack were some mentions of vmware and usb something or other.

Does anyone have any idea what might be going on? It seems definitely related to the SMP client in VMWare Player, rather than the GPU client, and I'd love to run both, because otherwise (temps, usage) the system is stable as can be.

Hello all, I have been wondering if anyone on OCN or any other forum/place that has a "Nvidia Telsa Personal SuperComputer" that did/is folding using this kind of system.

Anyone know what the PPD would be? I can only imagine, massive a mount of PPD :p

I was about 98% done on TWO 787ish point WUs, and I decided to install the latest beta drivers so that when the WUs would finish, I could just reboot.

... And then I got the crashing. The little circle-with-the-line-through-it icon in the systray, then restarting and having both cards start a new 353 point WU >_<.

All that folding... FOR NOTHING!

Question about WinAFC

I trying to use WinAFC to set the affinity for fah_core11.exe to run only on 1 of my cpu cores. I have downloaded it and added the following to my imput file:

C:\Users\Darklink\Desktop\Folding@home\FahCore_*ex e := TRIO0 [assign=1,resource=CPUUSE,policy=PSEUDOBALANCED,pri ority=HIGH,force=YES]

but when I run the program, it get a message that the affinity was not modified. I have tried to google the issue but I am not getting very far. I want to make sure I can set the affinity so that I can start up VMWare folding again in Linux and need 2 cores free. Currently without setting any affinity when I run the GPU2 client it uses about 40% of all 3 cpu cores.

I get even less when using the SMP client.

So yeah, I have each client locked to use one core of the CPU. The CPU is currently running at 3.3GHz. Do the PPDs for the clients look about right? They sound a bit low from what I've read, so I figured I would check :)

Not tried using -bigadv yet, should I try that?

Folding Stop when PC is In use?

On my mums comp I was wondering If I could make it like go to 0 percent CPU usage for Folding then 5 Mins after last mouse movement or whatever Start folding again?

Is there any way to do something like this?

If not how can I make it fold at certain times of the day?

GPU3 can't get here soon enough!

I'm not even talking about the PPD boost for ATI cards.

I hope the stupid thing works right.

I just lost 7 hours of folding time because GPU2 bugged out paused while I was at work.

I can't even say I'm pulling in my meager 3000 PPD because half of the time I can't even get my 4870 folding :mad:

I think I'll finally get around to RMAing my 9800GTX+, since I finally have a PSU that can run both cards, and just give up on ATI folding for a while...

Well I know people seem to have hit or miss luck with folding on different gpus, but does that apply to different cards with the same shaders?

I just picked up a 9800GX2 and I want to know if I could run my 8800GTX with it without problems. Each GPU on the GX2 is 128 SP and the 8800GTX is 128 SP.

It just hit me now while at work, so I am unable to check on my own. I figured someone on here has tried it.

SMP Folding on two motherboards

Having two motherboards, with a Dual core on each (example), is there any way to connect them for SMP folding -smp 4? I mean, communicate them.

I was thinking of Ethernet... but that would be too slow, no? is this really possible?

I'm am thinking of buidling a cheap folding rig for around $700. I've had suggestions on a few other forums. Anyway I was planning on going with a 4 pcie mb with an and processor buy someone suggested bigadv. Which could apparently get 20k ppd with an oc'd i7. Now Which would be better?

Everything was going great until he switched isp's to one with fiber. Now he can download and complete jobs, but it never sends.

So i just got my hands on 2 8800gt's. i put them in my sig rig. what do i need to do to get em running?

i tried getting a new console client. made 3 copies of em. make a new shortcut for each and adding the -gpu 0 -gpu 1 or -gpu 2 in target to use diff cards?

i got first set up but when i ran the 2nd one, it said i needed newer drivers or something. currently running 190.62.
