So i am thinking about redoing my secondary rig (check in my profile) and either getting it a sempron 140 or athlon X4...or putting my 945 ES in it and grabbing a nice new C3 revision for my sig rig

So do you guys think my memory below would be worth setting up on a Phenom II or Athlon II? from what i can see if i purchased a locked multiplier CPU i'd have to rely on increasing my memory's core speed so with it being only 800Mhz would it cope well? or could i just change that setting (can't remember) that sets the speed to a lower setting and just increase the FSB to get as close to 800Mhz or if i can do it 1066Mhz

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-209-_-Product

I am not so familiar with FSB overclocking and memory values but spending 100$ or so and getting a sempron 140 or add an extra 30-40$ and reusing this memory wouldn't be a big hit on my wallet ATM and surely a fun little project :o

I already have this memory and i am pretty much not even putting it to use with it running at 5-5-5 and all stock in my secondary rig...i spent 60$ or so before the DDR2 hike but selling this and then buying cheaper DDR2 would probably only net me 20$ or so with the price hike still in effect...even if i do sell it over what i paid for it

Heh i just checked the Athlon II X4 price and overshot it by 40$ :P...still might get it

I'm all for prolonging the life of my hardware and i started looking into RAM coolers.

I know RAM cooling isn't exactly necessary, but i had some extra cash lying around and i figured i would spend it on something.

Unfortunatelly, im working with limited space. I still have to put the CPU cooler on and its kinda big.

What do you guys think, is there some kind of fan cooler out there i might be able to put on, or should i just go with some heatsinks?

Hello!
It's been awhile since I last measured my memory speed with everest.
Now when I ran it , i've noticed something strange!
In memory type it says : Dual Channel DDR2-400 SDRAM (3-3-3-9 CR2)
and the results are somewhat lower than what i did before 10 months ago (I did screenshots of old tests and no hardware except my new ATI card changed since then and I maybe changed the slots closer to CPU)
Also memory bus is : 200 MHz
Older results say :
memory type : Dual Channel DDR2-800 SDRAM (5-5-5-18 CR2)
Also memory bus equals to 400 MHz

Could someone please explain this to me? Thanks!

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...OCZ3P1600LV4GK

I realize this is Intel-catered RAM, but I didn't think it would matter this much. My mobo automatically detects it at 1066, and I've tried a ton of different settings to try to get 1333 or 1600. No luck. You would think 1600 RAM could at least settle for 1333...

I've tried setting voltage to 1.65 (or 1.63/1.67 in my BIOS...there is no 1.65 offered) and setting timings to 8-8-8-24. Considering this RAM is supposedly rated to run 1600 at 7-7-7-24 using 1.65v, I thought 8-8-8-24 at 1333 using 1.65v would be safe.

It'll even pass memtest and everything, but any stability tests I run (prime95, AMD Overdrive, OCCT) will crash within the first or second phases. It'll even crash if I set my CPU and NB back to stock settings. I've even tried overclocking the RAM to 1200 (600x2) and setting the timings according to what's shown in CPU-Z at 1.5v. No luck again.

Please help...this is my first experience with OCZ (I usually buy Corsair or G.Skill) and I'm very disappointed right now. I can't even adjust the HTT (aka FSB for Intel) beyond 204 without crashing. This limits my overclocking and makes it really difficult to find stable settings.

Is there something I'm missing??

So I really don't know which set of ram I should get. I keep seeing people's suggestions and thinking I will go with that, then see one that sounds better. I am going to be running an AMD x3 720 and MSI 790FX-GD70. I know I want 4gb (2x2) of DDR3, and am willing to spend around $125 or so. I want the fastest ram the board can handle, the specs say 2133 OC, which I feel stupid for saying this, but I don't really understand what that means I should get. I also want low voltage of course, 1.6 or so would be great. I like G.Skill, as it is all I have used, but am open to other brands if you make a good case for them. And it of course has to OC well. After narrowing the field down by those parameters, there still is a ton of ram, and I don't know how to choose from it. So any help would be very much appreciated. I am making the purchase tomorrow, and would like some peace of mind with my order :)

Edit: Also, I'm going to be using a Mugen 2, so no tall heatspreaders please. Thanks!

Hi guys, yesterday I ran a Prime95 test which also included some memory testing. It was @ 1066mhz 5-6-6-18 @ 2.1V like its supposed to be. After 3 hours of testing, my computer froze and I had to restart. Afterwards the screen will stay black. I took 1 stick out, and ran the other stick solo. The computer would reboot, and I will proceed to add the 2nd stick for a total of 4gb. It will boot together and run fine. But when I then switch the timings back to 5-6-6-18 and then up the memory from 1.8V to 2.1V, the computer will start, but the screen will remain black. Does anyone know what happened? Should I return it? Since it is under warranty.

Any help would be great, thanks!

Here is the issue: If I put in just one RAM Module (doesn't matter which one), everything works perfectly. But if I install both in any of the slots then it will boot fine but only once. If I try to restart or shutdown and do a hard start up, it will give me a RAM Fault beep code. What could be causing this?

I also want to play with the NB and boost it up a little so I guess when I play with the multi for that it will change RAM settings and I should set the RAM after I adjust the NB? (I also figured that this will change my CPU and OC it, or am I miss under standing what I read?
I know there is a guide or two out there and will look for them and read them again.
