-All slots are now gray and black. No more green, blue, or white.
-The heatsink copper pipes are chromed out to match.
-All power connectors and fan headers are black, not white.

The accessories have changed somewhat: Used to have a 4 port usb bracket and a 1 port firewire, now they are combined into 1 bracket that has 2 usb and 1 firewire.

Had I known, I would have taken pics before the build, now you can't really see much, or I'd upload some pics for yas

Now, I also own a Rampage II extreme motherboard it comes with exactly the same card, and I even tried downloading the audio software off the asus website for the rampage II extreme but it's the same one as the Maximus III formula. though, the drivers are different. Maximus III uses a VIA and the Rampage Sound Max. On the RIIE I can use all mode on the MIIIF I can only use entertainment. Maybe Im doing something wrong. So if any one has this board I would appreciate the help thanks.

Hey all,

I'm going to be running off to college next year, and want to "future proof" my PC. I currently have my Sig Rig, and believe a Mobo upgrade would be best. By "future proofing", I mean have room for expansion, like more Ram, RAID support, etc.

So, I would like a good socket 775 Mobo, for about $100 - $150, that has the following:
- 4+ slots for DDR2 RAM (support for more than 4GB Ram)
- Onboard RAID support (SATA)
- at least 1 PCI-E 16x slot (for my 9800gtx+)
- at least 3 pci slots (to retrofit any new connectors/devices in the next 3-4 years)

I'm open to all brands, except Elitegroup and Intel Mobos.

Thanks! :D

Hey guys,
Just wondering about something. Ive got the Asus P5Q-E motherboard, and a Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 CPU.
Ive got some problems overclocking it, whenever I try to overclock it more than 3.16GHz, my screen is black when I save the settings and restart the PC.
Ive got a good cooler, Zalman CNPS9300AT, so the heat isn't the problem. Always below 40 degrees Celsius.
I tried to overclock it a bit more, but I dont know all the other settings than the FSB Frequency, DRAM Frequency and the CPU Ratio Setting.
Can anyone help me out? Would have been great to successfully overclock it to at least 3.6GHz :D Tried to overclock it to 4GHz, but as I said earlier, I get a black screen. When I restart the PC it starts up normally, but shows a "Overclock failed" message and I have to go back into the BIOS and reset to 3.16GHz -.-
Help me out guys? :)
- Thanks in advance,
Martin :)

I recently came across this problem with a build for a friend of mine. His PC simply would not POST, and after three hours of searching I finally came across the answer on a Newegg review. I'm hoping I can save some people the headache here:

The Gigabyte EP45-UD3P has a conflict with the G.Skill PC8500 (DDR2-1066) CL5D-4GBPK RAM (the ones with the light blue heatspreaders). When the RAM is run in dual channel mode in slots 1 and 3, it will not boot.

To solve this problem, simply place your RAM in slots 2 and 4 instead.

Just hoping there's someone out there who needs this :)

I've just spent the last few hours reading articles about this problem however none of the solutions i've read have helped my situation.

i originally thought it was a memory problem, then i thought that one of my 8800gt's were defective, but now after all this research im starting to think the board might just outright be defective.

the notorious problem with nvidia 7 series chipsets and video artifacting has plagued my system.

mind you my bios settings are all stock (ram voltage and timings set manually because this board sucks)
the machine would work fine for a while and then start to display green artifacts and lines all over the screen. when it first started, i could make it stop by restarting the pc. after time though, restarting the pc had no effect on the artifacts. more recently, the artifacts will be displayed starting at the POST screen. i can make them go away by loading bios defaults and rebooting however.

after i do that, i will get into windows and mess around for a few minutes and then the artifacts will come back. just now, they actually showed up, disappeared after 3 minutes, everything was fine for 10 minutes (played some video), and then they come back.

i tried running only 2 ram sticks and the system stopped giving artifacts. i ran 3dmark 06 twice with no problems however my second video card was not detected. after a bit of hassle, i got both cards to show up and SLI enabled. upon reboot however, the system was running very sluggish and locked up on me twice. since the bios settings were all auto at this point, i manually set them to what they should be and now XP will hang at the splash screen. safe mode will boot though.

so i went into safe mode and uninstalled all the nvidia drivers thinking its some driver issue thats preventing xp from loading. and when i reboot, boom artifacts are back starting at the post screen. ***!

if anyone knows this board they know it has alot of issues. that being said, i think this board is actually defective. should i RMA it or what?

I have the RAID partition set up through the BIOS, and the BIOS recognizes the partition just fine. However, installing windows is the problem. I have tried using the floppy disc that comes with RAID drivers, but to no avail. I have tried downloading the latest RAID drivers from intel to no avail. Try as I might I can hit delete all day freaking long and it will not let me into my BIOS. Is there any other way I can force the PC into the BIOS? And then hope to GOD that I will actually be able to use my keyboard in it?

Hey everyone, just wanted to see what type of input you guys can give me.

Recently, my computer has started to act up. Usually happens when I am playing WoW, but does happen the odd time when im doing something else. What usually happens is the computer would stop responding and the hard drive light on my case would light up solid. Before I use to be able to wait it out and it will kind of sort itself out and become responsive, but lately i've had to restart it by pressing the button on my case.

At first I figured it might be a hard drive problem, so I did all the scans, this and that and basically eliminated the hard drive being the source. I then put two new hard drives in my computer and set it up as a raid. While playing WoW today, the same thing happen, and I had to restart my computer again, which kind of corrupted one of my hard drives.

After restarting the computer, sometimes it would not detect the hard drive. I would need to completely shut off my computer, power supply included, step away for a bit, then come back and it will work.

Something else I noticed, when trying out different sata ports, it makes no difference. The same thing will happen.

This use to happen to me a lot when I had my system overclocked, I guess it was a bit unstable, but I reset everything back to stock and it still happens.

I also considered the power supply, but after checking the voltages, everything seemed fine.

Any ideas/suggestions would be great.

Thanks!

Since EVGA X58 motherboards don't support floppy drives on their board anymore (no onboard FDD cable or connector) ...would an external USB floppy drive work the same way as an onboard floppy when configuring raid during Windows XP installation?

One other thing...if I were to buy a Q9450/Q9550/Q9650 ...would I have to update my 780i SLI bios to the latest version to support them?

This is just for future reference as I know there will be a time that I will have to part with my E6750...maybe not soon...but I know I will.

I'm aiming for the 4ghz mark as i gather most of us are these days, but im thinking i am going to have to replace my board :( money better spent on GFX i say!!! any advice would be a godsend. Thanx in advance.

PS. Maybe i just have it all wrong....north bridge set at 1.3 and south at auto @ the 3.8ghz maybe south voltage may help???

I'll be reviewing this board over the next several days, posting a preview for now. I'll replace this post with the full review (including better pictures) with Tri-SLI, Max OC, and gaming tests, when it's finished.

Check out the Big Bang launch site.

Some important features I'd like to go ahead and point out though.

Nvidia nf200 chip for 16x16x SLI or 16x8x8x Tri-SLI (Hydra chip is on Big Bang Fuzion)

100% HI-c CAP for lower ESR, long life, and good efficiency. Also a lower profile for easy insulation for extreme cooling.

OC Dashboard - Easy overclocking and system monitoring, and a 5 foot cable. This replaces the Direct OC buttons on the P55-GD80.

QuantumWave sound card - THX TruStudio PC with EAX Advanced HD

V-Kit - makes measuring voltage quick and easy with a multimeter.

Finger Touch Buttons are a great feature, as mentioned in my P55-GD80 review.

Now a few pictures.
