Any recommendations? I can't seem to find much of anything benchmarking newer NVidia cards on older rigs.

Viewing the monitoring and hardware description parts of Rivatuner was not a problem but I was expecting a BIOS like section for overclocking the card but none is readily found.

I can see a section with a heading "CPU Overclocking" (or something very similar) but I just can't nail down the actual areas where the changes are made (no matter what I do "apply" is always grayed out). Does anyone have any tips on navigating Rivatuner?

And overall, despite the GTX 280 being older... is it still a good card? I know the GTX 275 rocks, so the GTX 280 would rock harder, i guess.

Well, as everyone who has been reading my worklog knows, one of my EVGA GTX 280's was giving me all sorts of random driver crashes while folding and I found out when I went to replace the TIM that it had a burnt resistor on it:

After replacing the TIM did not solve the issue I decided that RMA was the next thing to try and i am so far very pleased with EVGA's handling of the situation.

I did not call them today until around 3:00. When i called i was only on hold for less than 2 min. waiting for a person to talk to which is very good for most companies today. Once i was on the phone with the rep he was very helpful. He walked me through everything i had to do to get the RMA setup without any troubles. He never once questioned if the RMA was warranted or tried deny that there was a problem. He even walked me through the process of making a PDF version of my invoice from Newegg to submit.

Once the RMA was submitted i got a confirmation that it had been accepted within an hour. Conveniently enough it was soon enough that i could make it to the post office to ship the card before they closed at 5:00. :-)

All that within 2hours. I consider that pretty good customer service.

I should have a card back by Monday or Tuesday of the week after next because of Thanksgiving.

+REP to EVGA :D

Help! I bought a used 9800GX2 and am having a heckuva time getting it installed properly.

I am wondering if there are particular issues with any of the following:

Windows 7 x64 Pro?

my mobo 790X-UD4P bios F8

BIOS settings? afaik there are no "SLI" settings on this board

my CPU or memory overclock, or the CPUNB frequency could be at fault...

CPU Freq set to 210, @ max, multiplier =17.5 for 3675 OC. Memory timings @ 5-6-6-18 @ 195ns, 2T cmd rate. CPUNB=2300/HT=1890. Also, I do have C1E enabled, and am perfectly willing to turn off PhenomMSRTweaker or twack whatever else might need twacking.

Here are the steps I took and the results (problems):

It would be nice to have an installation guide, when switching from one Nvidia card to another. But since I don't have one (anyone got a link, or experience with this?) here are the steps I took between removing my previous card (which was temporarily at GTX260 Core 216 SC)

Disconnected from Internet.

Uninstalled Nvidia drivers (first 3D, then Physx, then Nvidia CP) via Programs CP; reboot.

Uninstalled device from Device Manager; disabled antivirus; Ran Driver Cleaner.Net, with Nvidia, Nvidia Control Panel, and Nvidia PhysX filters; reboot.

After full reboot to let Windows delete the drivers, I shut down, and installed the 9800GX2. My PSU (EA650) has 1 6-pin, and 1 6+2 pin PCIE connectors, so I used those both of course, and they seemed to fit OK. I connected Monitor #1 to the slot labelled 1 on the card, via the HDMI cable using a DVI-HDMI adapter, and Monitor #2 to the #2 slot using a VGA-DVI adapter.

I fired up the machine and the green lights by the power connectors lit up, and a green and a blue light on the back lit up. In Windows, I was able to install the driver (191.07 win7x64) but when I tried to change the interface to the HDMI monitor to not send audio, the system froze. Reboot.

Upon rebooting, I essentially had freezing problems any time I tried to access monitor settings. So I tried using the direct HDMI port on the card, same results. Next I tried using just one monitor, the VGA one, on the #1 slot, again, freezing system.

I don't think this is a PSU problem unless it pertains to the connectors themselves. Would love to get any tips people might have to get this going as it would be a real shame for me not to be able to use this card.

Thanks,

I saw a thread somewhere that there is a way to enable sli capabilities on my motherboard..

I am wondering if it would be a good/easy upgrade to throw another GTX 260 in my system. I don't think my power supply has the connectors for it..

Hi,

I just got my new 9800GX2 from Valicious (fast shipping, thanks!) So prior to installing, I am reviewing the card's requirements. . . I am thinking perhaps my PSU (Antec EA650) isn't sufficient.

PSU Calculator suggests I have a 526W capable PSU, no problem there, but also recommends 37.6 in Amperage @12V, which I am less confident about.

There's a sale on the Thermaltake ToughPower 750 which I am considering, to put me more at ease, or should I relax, confident in the EA650's abilities.

Thanks,

My father recently contacted me about his ASUS monitor not being able to pick up any HDMI signal after a recent room move, I checked it out, everything looked to be hooked up correctly, no power cords were out of place, the video card (EVGA 275) had its fan spooling, I don't know what could be the problem. The nearest DVI cable I have is about an hour away, I was planning on trying to work the monitor without HDMI, attempting to use DVI or VGA, but of course, I didn't have any cords/adapters. What's the deal?

For certain reasons I had to remove, and replace my power supply (unrelated to my card). But when I plugged everything back in and turn it on, the LED in the back that normally glows blue (for my main display), is now faded out and shows nothing (not green or red). The light above it still shows green, the lights around the powersupply plug-ins still glow green. And as of right now I'm not getting a signal to my monitor. I can't find the manual that shows what this faded light might mean (or what could have caused it) and I can't find anything to help me online. Is anyone familiar with this kind of problem?

Hello folks,

Lately I've getting this huge upgrade-itch that won't go away. It won't go away until I slap a new GPU inside my case... Damn!
I'm wondering though... I previously thought of going with ATI on my next GPU, but I decided I want to stay with nVidia a little longer.

To me, right now, is the worst moment to upgrade, ATI is dominating like a boss and nVidia... well... who knows?

The real question here is: Would a GTX 275 still be a worthy card to upgrade to? I would be one DirectX generation behind... but hey, DX11 will take some time to implement right? Besides, DX10 games will still be around for a long time I suppose.

I would wait until the new MAINSTREAM (I never buy the top dog) GPUs from nvidia hit the market... but it's taking too long... and mainstream products main take even longer...

However, I can't control this upgrade bug! Crap! What do I do? :|

I'm really clueless right now.

Check this out guys, this is so cool.

Nvidia has worked together with different companies to put together a charitable auction for one of the fastest gaming computers ever made!

http://cgi.ebay.com/Ultimate-NVIDIA-...ht_7185wt_1165

It has over 10,000 dollars worth of equipment in it and every penny is going to charity. And hey, if you have 10,000 bucks to throw down, don't worry, it's tax deductible. It's just one of those times when you feel proud to be a geek.. :D
