Hi lads and gals.
__________________This FAQ today is a FAQ for improving your precision in FPS games. Note that this can screw up your computer if not done properly ;) ------- REMOVING MOUSE ACCELERATION ------- This is about removing the mouse acceleration from your mouse. If you are a person who likes to use as little RAM as possible, by not installing your mousedrivers (Like me) then you could apply a mousefix. Note: Some older M$ mice have a "buggy" mousewheel, so you might want to install the drivers for those, though this is still useful. 1) Get mousefix here 2) Apply the .reg in the ZIP. 3) Reboot 4) When rebooted you should notice that your mouse is a bit slower. If it isn't, try going into Control Panel > Mouse > Pointer settings and remove the checkmark in Enhance Pointer Precision ------- TIPS AND TRICKS FOR CS:S ------- First of all, I would like you to get proper rates, depending on your internet. With =+384kbit upload you should write (in the console) cl_updaterate 101 cl_cmdrate 101 With =+512kbit download write (in the console) rate 25000 With sub-512kbit (min. 256) download write rate 10000 I hope you don't have lower than 256kbit download, but if you have so, write rate 5000, or rate 7500 as long as you don't get any choke. With sub-384kbit (to a min. of 256kbit) upload write cl_updaterate 60 cl_cmdrate 60 With sub-256kbit (excluding 256kbit) write cl_cmdrate 30 cl_updaterate 30 Nonetheless, whatever internet connection you've got write cl_interp 0 (Interpolation, VERY useless and shows the excact player location worse. This disables smoothing of your packets, but is giving a more precise "real" location of the players) Note: This will automatically be set to 0.01, and is recommended by most professional players. cl_smooth 0 (Somewhat of the same as above, this is just with weapons and props.) Also, a low sensitivity can give a big advantage when it comes to aiming. If your mouse have a on-the-fly DPI adjustment, set it to the highest. The lowest sensitivity (1) gives you the best aim at your FOV, but also you can still take advantage of high sens (10) by being able to turn 180 around if someone's knifing you or the likes. I recommend a place where you make a 180 by moving your mouse from the one side of your mousepad (Or if you're on table, get a mousepad, until then make one where your arm sits good, farthest away from you, and turn upto your keyboard.) to the other site. ------- TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOUR CROSSHAIR ------- Also, take advantage of small crosshairs. You will be aiming on very small points sometimes, so a dot, with 2x2 pixels is preferred. Here's some basics: - Stick to the smallest crosshair available - Stick to a Red or Blue crosshair. Some games a Green is also good. - If the game you're playing has the availability for diagonal crosshairs, get those, but for gods sake those need to be small. For CS:S, write: cl_crosshairscale 10000 (Smaller crosshair) cl_crosshairalpha 1000000 (Brighter crosshair) cl_crosshairusealpha 1 (Required to be if cl_crosshairalpha is of any use) cl_crosshaircolor 1 or 2 (Red is 1, Blue is 2) ------- HAVE IT CLEAN ------- Always remember to clean your mice' feet every 10-16 hours of gaming, with some/a damp () cloth. I don't recommend paper towels for this, but if you don't have anything else, or don't want to use anything else, you can use it fine, just don't get the cheap stuff. Also, every day after gaming, wash your pad. BUT! Do not do it with a cloth pad (Excluding 5L, but needs to be done with a wet towel instead). Wash it by putting it under tap water, turning your hand in circles on it. Do that for a minute and then dry it off with a towel, doing with pressure (do not overdo lol) in circles. ------- THE MONITOR IS FATAL ------- First of all, LCD monitors sucks. Period. (A little edit here, they don't EXTREMELY suck, but at least they're worse than their CRT counterparts.) If you're going to be a real FPS gamer, then a CRT is for you. I recommend Samsung. Anyway, if you're happy with your LCD, let it be at 8ms AT LEAST at colour to colour, instead of black to white. Start getting the latest drivers for your monitor, which there isn't excatly a 'latest' driver, any driver is good. Get RefreshForce (HERE and run it.) DISCLAIMER: IF ANY PROGRAMS/TOOLS POSTED IN THIS FAQ ON OVERCLOCK.NET/OVERCLOCKING.NET MADE BY GONX MAKES ANY DAMAGE, REVERSIBLE OR IRREVERSIBLE, I WILL NOT TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY. This is my first FAQ and I hope it will get of some use.

Nice FAQ :thumb:
__________________cl_crosshairscale 10000 is a great command, it makes the crosshair almost a dot so if your standing still the first couple bullets will always shoot where you aim. Iv pwned gonX in CS:S a couple times on 10000 :D.

Jack about the crosshair, it's just a personal preference. OpTioN likes to have it at 1200. I like to have it about 10000, but it's not a full dot since i'm running 640x480.
And thanks for the notes.

So many of the better CSS players, including me use normal crosshairs. As well as you dont want an insanely low mouse speed, I know someone who plays on 15 sensitivity, my preference is 7.6 on 1300dpi. Youll get alot better if you play on high look sensitivity then playing on low, just takes a bit of getting used to, less mouse movement, more control, better reaction time..
__________________Oh and, the first 2 shots with most weapons will hit in the center of the crosshair :), or at least damn close. And why do LCD's suck? Because you say they do? This isnt 1999, LCD's have gotten alot better since then.

LCDs doesn't have the same feel. The pros - also those who edit images - uses CRTs.
LCDs is simply just too dry in the looks (Conrast ratio) and you really need to spend 2000$ to get a LCD that is close to the CRTs. Somewhat wierd, but i can sit up longer infront of a CRT than at a TFT. The pros in CS runs at low sensitivities. Excactly what you want is a VERY low mouse speed to have the aim precise, but also a decent high one if you're playing a rushing map (Often fy_, surf_ or kz_) Still, if you have a old mouse (Old optical or Old laser) you should have the sensitivity that high that it doesn't flip out when you turn fast around. Alot of the pros like the MS Intelli 3.0, and i personally use the 4.0 and the G5. I like my 4.0 much better, because if the mouse flips out, then it doesn't really do it at my 4.0 because of the engine. Check the pros configs here: (Clicky) Players such as HeatoN which is known for his good spray has his sensitivity low. zet uses a rather high (Low actually, but high in windows) sensitivity. Watch me play at the overclock.net server and see i'm always on top (Almost always) because of my low sens. Sometimes i die because of it, but i kill more than i die. If i had a high sens, i wouldn't kill as many but maybe neither die so much. So the solution it pretty 50/50, many frags and many deaths with low sens, or fewer frags and fewer deaths on the high sens. I'd just say stick to as low as possible, because high sensitivity can kill you ALOT of times.

Yeah man, plus with the CRT you get a free space heater. LCD's are great and are in many cases now far better than CRTs for gaming.
