Let me introduce a codec called Nero digital to everyone. Basically the company nero took the mpeg 4 codec and modified it to make it there own and boy do they know how to. Once a DVD is encoded into this codec the quality is better than anything including XVID although it take 6-8 hours for 1 pass and 10 hours for 2 pases. For this guide we will be using DVD shrink and Nero Recode.
__________________1.First extract the video by pressing Open disc 2.Select the actual disc 3.DVD Shrink will analyze it and then u will make a designated folder for where u want it to be saved. ![]() 4.Then once that is finished extracting we r going to open up nero ![]() 5.Make sure to follow those steps 1. DVD area number 1 in the picture 2. Photo and video tab 2 in the picture 3. Convert video to nero digital 3 in the picture 6. Select convert DVD movies to nero digital. ![]() 7. Where the check marks are make sure those setting are highlighted!! 1. Click import files and select the video TS folder witht the extracted files in them and then open it and then select this 2. U can then select what size u want the file to be if u want a custome size press fit to target and put in the number of MB's ![]() U must select the title with the longest run time. Then towards the bottom select what sound channels u want 8. Then press next on the bottom right. 9.then for destination that is where u want to file to be writen " a folder a drive which contains burnable media". 10. Then for target folder put exacly where u want it to go to. 10. than go to where it says nero digital setting and put in for encoding method 1 pass it saves u 2 hours. "1 pass = 6-8 hours" 2 pass =10 hours 11. then press Expert mode 1. now look at the new things that popped up press rate control and make sure it's set to 1 pass. 12. and then press BURN that means basically for the encoding to start. 13. while it is encoding there will probably be an option on the bottom left that says enable video preview uncheck that cause it hogs system resources. ![]() 14. now when u right click on the file it will give u a nifty new tab and it will give u ALOT of detail about ur video file enjoy ur video encoding It's truly worth the long wait.

I doubt it will make quality of exisisting DVD movies, but absolutely non-compressed movies would gain benefit of this.

Dude it very legal and yes i think it works with the players i use VLC which is of coarse the best player out there. Think about it an xvid file works with everything. I use VLC and the creative media source player which comes with every creative sound card ever made. But it should work with windows media player as long as a player supports MPEG 4 it shall work. give it a try it's awesome.
