Which Conroe Motherboard Will Best Suit You?
__________________I decided to write an FAQ about the most major Conroe's supporting motherboard that is up to date with the current market, because many people have been asking around for them and I thought this FAQ would be really helpful to everyone that don’t know where to look for and what specification that they needed Note: This will be brief on each model only since it will take me forever to give every bit of details about it. Here is the list of Motherboards that will be mention Asus P5W DH Deluxe Asus P5B Deluxe (Non WIFI and WIFI) Asus P5W64 WS PRO Notice how I only list the most asked for motherboard there are right now. Currently, there are a lot more of those floating around but I haven’t got one to test it out, and I don’t know anyone that has it to give me feedback. If you do have one that is not listed, please PM me with a few comments and I’ll see if I can google it up. OK…………….Here come the good stuff
- Intel 975X +Intel ICH7R - 1066/800MHz - Dual-channel DDR2 800/667/ 533 max 8GB - 2 x PCI-E x 16 / 2 x PCI-E x 1/ 3 x PCI - Support ATI CrossFire graphics cards - Intel Matrix Storage technology - Dual Gigabit LAN - Dolby Master Studio technology - ASUS EZ-Backup - ASUS Digital Home features Conclusion: The best 975X Chipset, Crossfire, Intel Core 2 Duo E6600, E6700, and E6800 as of right now. It doesn’t favor the lower model since FSB is limited to 420FSB due to low vMCH voltage. I heard that you can get a new revision of the board that support up to 1.8vMCH instead of 1.65vMCH, but it doesn’t overclock very well. This board only worth it because of the CrossFire, otherwise if you want more FSB, then the P5B Deluxe is the way to go. Also, the SouthBridge for this board is ICH7R which is an older chipset, if you want to have more than 2 HD (HardDrive), this might not suit you.
- Intel® Core™2 Extreme / Core™2 Duo Ready - Intel® Pentium® Extreme / Pentium® D / Pentium® 4 / Celeron® D Ready - Dual-channel DDR2 800/667/533 - AI NOS™ / AI Gear / AI Nap - 8 Phase Power Design - Fanless Design - Heat Pipe & Stack Cool 2 - Array Mic / Noise Filter - WiFi-AP Solo Conclusion: The best overclocking Allendale/Conroe all together. Does up to 650FSB, although I didn’t see or heard anyone reaches that high, best I’ve seen is 550-600FSB. Very easy to raise FSB, can unlocked multiply with the 0607 bios or later. Temperature sensor might be a pain since its measure from the inside of the CPU instead of the IHS. South Bridge is ICH8R, which is the newest southbridge chipset so far. Can support up to 6 HDs if I’m not mistaken. Doesn’t support CrossFire sinces its 965P Chipset. EDIT: YOU CAN NOW USE ATI CATALYST 6.9 TO SUPPORT CROSSFIRE ON CHIPSET 965 PLATFORM!!!
- Intel Core™2 Extreme / Core™2 Duo Ready - Quad-core CPU Ready - DDR2 800/667/533 - FSB 1066/800/533 - Quad PCI-E x 16 slots Conclusion: Overall best motherboard for chipset 975x with CrossFire. It does overclocks better than P5W DH Deluxe, it has quad PCIe slot, if you use all 4 slots it will be 8/8/4/8 from slot 1/2/3/4. Please use it accordingly, or else your GPU won't run at full speed if you place it in slot 3. FSB can hit 450 with ease, runs cool, bios setting is very easy (same as P5W DH Deluxe). Although, it is very expensive but it worth every penny.

I believe he did it on purpose, guys.
Anyhow, nice FAQ. I didn't realize some of those issues with the P5W DH. Sucks that P5B doesnt support crossfire though. Also, I am not clear on the "unlocked multi" thing for P5B. You mean you can unlock any processor (6300,6400,6600) multi? Uhm, what? Other than that, very nice.
