Default How to: Fix iTunes sound quality problems

If you've just recently upgraded to iTunes 7 and realized that it has horrible sound quality (hisses, crackles and pops throughout all your music) and just saw iTunes got through your music collection to determine gapless playback or something, don't panic! At first I thought this gapless playback check had crippled my music somehow (early versions of iTunes, like 2.1 or so, had a bug that deleted your music lol) but then I saw a light, if you're having a similar problem it seems that the iTunes 7/Quicktime installer sets Quicketime's default audio size to 8 bit instead of 24 bit, on my computer it still said 24 bit but it clearly was not so.

To fix this open up Quicktime (if you cant find a .mov or .mpeg video file go to Program Files, Quicktime, QuickTimePlayer) go to Edit, Preferences>Quicktime Preferences and go to the audio tab, be sure to set everything as follows:

Rate: 192kHz
Size: 24bit
Channels:Set to be equal to the speaker setup you have

Apply and then OK and close Quicktime and iTunes and then start up iTunes and see if that's helped.

it doesn't fix anything i still have the hiss. It seems that every itunes 7 has some kind of problem. Mine is fine except the fact that the only way i can get clear music is if the volume slider is all the way up. It it is less or in the middle HISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!! but it's clear when it's all the way up. but i did notice a bit of a diff in the sound quality of the itunes playback.

^^Agreed.

It did nothing for me, I went back to iTunes 6 and have no hiss.
