Default How to: Air-strafe in Counter-Strike 1.6

This FAQ is specifically for Counter-Strike 1.6, as I have never played any other version of Counter-Strike to see for myself if it works.

First off, for those who dont know exactly what air-strafing is, air-strafing is a technique used to gain speed while in air.

Note: Air-strafing can be done with the normal gravity setting of 800; however, it is hard to gain or even maintain speed due to the obvious fact that you are not in the air for a very long time. In order to use air-strafing to your advantage with normal gravity, you would have to "bunny-hop" which I will not delve into.

My main focus is to educate anyone who has interest in scoutzknivez maps.

Note: Standard server settings to adequately be able to air-strafe are

"sv_airaccelerate 100"

,

"sv_airmove 5"

,

and the gravity varies depending on the map. For most scoutzknivez maps, i recommend

"sv_gravity 200"

.

Now, you're ready to begin air-strafing.

To start, you will want to run straight forwards and jump. While in the air, let go of the run/move forwards key (It is very important that you do this, or you will not be able to air-strafe as precisely as possible). From this point, you can begin air-strafing to the left or the right. Either way is equally effective. For this FAQ, let's say you want to air-strafe to the left. What you would want to do is press your strafe left key (hence the name "air-strafe"), default being "a". At the same time you press this key move your mouse to the left as well. To air-strafe to the right, you would do the same thing, but with the strafe right key, default "d", and move your mouse the the right. You will notice that doing this makes you go in circles, the faster you move your mouse, the smaller the circles you spin in, and the slower you move your mouse, the bigger the circles you spin in.

The next step is to change directions and begin gaining speed. Say you began air-strafing to the left and want to change directions and air-strafe to the right, you simply switch from the left strafe key, to the right strafe key, simultaneously switching the direction you are moving your mouse.

That is the basic technique of air-strafing in a nutshell. Going further, there are many different things that can be done. Variations are endless and everyone has their own style. Just remember that practice makes perfect. :)
And if you rrreeeaaallllyyy need help, PM me and i might be able to hook you up with some personal lessons with the air-strafe MASTER :P.

If you find any mistakes i missed or have any suggestions please inform me.

I did, then school started. =( It was such a good game, so much harder than cs:s, which has horribly unrealistic recoil. Nice faq.

sv_airmove 5? It is a on/off variable, so setting it at 5 gives no sense.
