Default How To: Make any Sized shroud in 2 minutes

OK, I am going to show you how to make any sized radiator shroud
OH and the best part is it only takes 2 minutes - YAY

Parts
You will need the following
A dremel with a cutting blade, ( Or Plyers if you dont need it to look pro)

120mm fan housing - 1 for each fan you use on your radiator

(for a single 120mm rad use 1 fan, double 120mm fan use 2 fans etc.)

zip ties or double length fan screws

a couple minutes of free time

OK so first you take you 120mm fan

I like this picture becasue you can clearly see the little plastic pieces holding the fan on

to make a shroud you simply cut or break those little plastic support beams holding the fan motor and blade on

( before you do this make sure you remove the wire from the little clips holding it so that you will still be able to use your fan after you remove it)

once you break the supports for the fan pull it out and there you go

now you have a working fan(without housing) and a shroud for your radiator

this also works with all other sized fans

ALSO, If you havbe an externally mounted radiator you can use this as a Radbox

It will not be sucking fresh air from the sides but instead from inside your computer making all the components even cooler

please leave feedback :D

thanks for reading :D

for water cooling

to cool the water you have it running through a radiator

google image it

then you put fans on the radiator but when you do that there is a large dead spot in the middle

if you have a shroud it will cool your computer more efficiantly

Still, I didn't write an FAQ on it, so although this idea is not original (as it likely wasn't when I thought of it) you are probably the first to write an FAQ on it, on Overclock.net.

You get a REP for bringing the idea to people's attention! A little more FAQ illustration and instruction wouldn't be such a bad idea though ;) imho.

Yeah, I used one for a shroud and it cost about £12.00 (around $21 USD)... I wanted to get 4 of them, but I just couldn't justify spending so much for something I was going to, effectively, break...

The 120 x 25mm fans are cheap enough though. Idk why more people don't use the method you've described to make shrouds. It's so quick and simple and I'm sure it can be cheaper than buying purpose-made shrouds...

I came up with this also a few months ago...who cares though.

But, you might want to add this: Cut off one side of the shroud if you are using two of them side-by-side. Place the shrouds together and you have a large open cross-section in the middle. This will all the air to combine between both fans completely eliminating the deadspace where the fans come together.
