Ohhh yeahh! Full wave recitfier! But, that would be going into a bit too much detail wouldn't it? The FAQ is just on how it converts energy.

I suppose... Either way you shouldn't make it sound like all the power loss is happening in the wires. Agreed some does but probably 95% of the power loss is in the unit itself.

THe loss is through teh resistance in the wires and the transformer because of resistance...isn;t it?

I'm not really sure why all the power loss is in the main unit yet. I'm only a few weeks into my electonics class at college. All I know right now is that compared to the wires the power supply has a massive power loss... typically around 25% that all gets turned into heat. That's why they have fans and blow warm air. That warm air is 100% power lost to heat.

But where does that powerloss come from? Heat! Why is heat created? Powerdissipation because of a voltage drop. WHy do you get voltage drops? RESISTANCE. The wires and transformer have resistance.

Correct me if I'm wrong...

Just mixed up. Heat comes from power loss, and voltage drops come from resistance. Also heat comes from resistance.

Im in the US, our outlets are 120V (at least here in Colorado).

It can change a lot, but 10 volts doesn't hurt anything. All electrical stuff should be 110/120V for the US.
