How to change your IP thru a Lynksys Router!
I posted this a long time ago in a thread and figured id make a Faq on it being i didnt see one! First of all if you dont know your ip number go here http://www.ipchicken.com/ and make sure you write it down, you will need this ip to make sure its been changed after you do the steps below! "*PLEASE MAKE SURE WHEN YOU COPY YOUR MAC ADDRESS YOU COPY YOUR (LAN) MAC ADDRESS NOT YOUR (WIRELESS) MAC ADDRESS THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT*" 1)Open up your web browser and go herehttp://192.168.1.1/wanMac.htm or http://192.168.1.1/WanMAC.asp if you cant connect to this then your Router does not support this! 2)Ok once at login screen leave the username blank and in the password box type admin, this will bring you to a new screen with 6 boxes that look like this (0.0 0.0 0.0 0.0 0.0 0.0) it may just have all 0's or have numbers and letters., click on the orange setup button @ the top right hand corner of the screen, this will bring you to another screen with various information. 3)Now look for your (LAN) MAC address it will look something like this "EXAMPLE; LAN IP (MAC Address: 00-90-4B-60-78-6E)" ""NOTE"" "*PLEASE MAKE SURE WHEN YOU COPY YOUR MAC ADDRESS YOU COPY YOUR (LAN) MAC ADDRESS NOT YOUR (WIRELESS) MAC ADDRESS THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT*" 4)Copy your LAN (MAC Address: 00-90-4B-60-78-6E) and hit the back button and place the LAN (MAC Address: 00-90-4B-60-78-6E) in the 6 boxes. ""NOTE"" The numbers i have provided both above and below are for examples only do not use them! 5)Now to change your ip you have to change the last 2 boxes (MAC Address: 00-90-4B-60-xx-xx) the ones ive marked with the xx are the 2 boxes you will change. 6)Now you can use any combonation of numbers and/or letters from 0-9 to A-F in the last 2 boxes example as shown below. ""NOTE"" Only change the last 2 boxes as shown in the examples below Example; we started with this LAN (MAC Address: 00-90-4B-60-78-6E) Example; we can change it to this (MAC Address: 00-90-4B-60-E5-08) Example; we can change it to this (MAC Address: 00-90-4B-60-07-07) Example; we can change it to this (MAC Address: 00-90-4B-60-FF-AA) Caution; Do not change the first 4 boxes of the Mac Address that ive marked with an xx (MAC Address: xx-xx-xx-xx-78-6E) You can use any combanation of numbers 0-9 or any combanation of letters A-F 7)Now unplug all your modems and routers for 30 seconds minimum. 8)After the 30 seconds have passed plug everything back in. 9)Click on your web browser and see if you can connect to the internet if you get a page that says can not be displayed message this is normal! simply hit the reset button on the back of your linksys router and you should be good to go. 10)Now go here http://www.ipchicken.com/ and you will see your new ip I have posted some screen shots below these are just for a reference. Not all routers are 192.168.1.x my linksys came as 192.168.2.x might want to include a step to run ipconfig to find their default gateway. Rest looks good to me. Good job.
