AMD Advantage
__________________In my Point of View, AMD will always be Better than Intel, in terms of "General" gaming. "General" as in "Games Not Bought Out by Intel to be Coded for HyperThreading". Almost Garunteed, AMD will out perform any intel on a "general" gaming factor. Intel Advantage Now, video editing, photo editing, encoding, and office applications are a totally different with story of intel. Because of intel's HT technology, i can almost garuntee that an amd equivalent to intel, intel will always run faster. But for the Rest, video, photo, and music, Intel as always been leading the way, but some recent benchmarks that i have read prove differently. On some tests, AMD is actually on par or exceeding Intel in some encoding applications. AMD vs. Intel Heat. Since Day 1 of intel vs amd, amd chips has always been cooler than intel. during the early days of consumer computing, AMD was a division of intel that made their chips, AMD broke away, and started making their own chips, which were based on intel plans, only better(according to my uncle.. superengineer). AMD will always run cooler than intels. AMD vs. Intel overclocking The overclocking factor of AMD an Intel will always be a false statement. YES, intel's will always have the higher overclock NUMBERS. only because they start out at a higher clock speed. But in the real world test, AMD is actually the top overclocker performance wise, whether numbers count or not, because of the executions per cycle difference. AMD vs. Intel Pricing AMD is, and always has been aimed at the consumer enthusiast, which explains why an AMD equivalent to Intel cpu is always priced Lower. AMD also does less of the OEM market, and less Advertising(never seen an amd commercial on tv. period) Intel on the other hand, does both markets, both Retail Consumer, and OEM. The reason why Intel will always be priced more than Intel is brand name, People will go and buy Intel, because they are Intel. Intel spends more money on advertising, research, and marketing than AMD will ever do. So, AMD is for All around gamers, Students, Amateur encoding. Intel is for the professional editors, and such.

A Legend Returns

Ok.. good points ther... But i personally think intel has been more worried about Micron processes getting smaller, and getting max MHZ... Soon they will start to engineer there chips better and still have that huge MHz abillity.. Intel has the money to buy every AMD engineer and have them work for them.. So only time will tel but just an example of what Intel is capable of.. Dothan operates at 2ghz and out performs P4 EE in alot of cases and even rivals the FX55 in gaming and such.. And is crippled in a sense of things... it has a max of 333 mhz ram in single chanel, and also only agp4x.. i would like to see what it could do with better memory bandwidth and graphics bandwidth...Time will tell!! But i do like AMD for gaming :)

Another difference is that AMD have a higher number of execution units in their processors than Intel and so get more work done per clock cycle

i'm confused about something, the heat issue, i have a few friends with there P4's and they usually run low 40's or high 30's on stock cooling, then there is some of my friends with amd, which also get relatively th same temps as P4 35-45 say, then there is me and a select few, we get high 50's to low 60's for our temps, i've checked my HSF and tested a few thigns to give greater cooling, but no matter what i do i stay in teh high 50's look at my profile for temps.... iv'e got a Tt Polo735 which is identical to Volcano 12.... i am still baffeled to my high temps, with such a good cooler

The early AMD Processors did have a great heat issue!, i had a Athlon 1600+ (1.5GHz) i believe, and it got so damn hot, so amd havent always been cooler

i think this FAQ is pretty biased, you seem to be in big favor of amd and as much as i love amd over intel too i think you made it seem a little too much like amd will beat intel in every case whcih i dont think is true, amd are better for gaming though, yes.
