Default How can I start applications easily with the Run dialog box?

Hey!

If your like me, and love using the Run dialog box (Windows+R) to start some windows based programs, but wish you could have all your other applications, easily accessible as well, this is what you should be checking out :)

It's actually really really simple, and takes only a few seconds.

All you have to do is copy a shortcut to the application to:

X:\WINDOWS\System32\
or
X:\WINDOWS\
(where X is your System HDD)

To make it easier and less to type, rename the shortcut to something simple, for example

FarCry = frc
*note: see attached thumbnail 01
you may also have another file in the system32/windows folder that might have a name you want to use e.g. FarCry (fc for short) there is an fc.exe in the windows folder which will conflict with your shortcut.

Need For Speed Underground 2 = nfsu2

Unreal Tournament 2004 = ut2

etc.. etc..

all you have to do now is hit Windows+R (or Start > Run) and type in the name of the shortcut you just created:

e.g.

WIN+R > frc , then hit enter
*note: see attached thumbnail 02

up comes Far Cry :)

the main benefit is time saving, unless your really quick with your mouse :P. But can also make your desktop look much cleaner :thumbsups

I know some people like a desktop clear of everything except recycling bin, and my computer, some even less, and some only using the start menu to access their programs.

I only found this a little while ago when i wanted to open calculator faster than going:

Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > Calculator

now i just hit Windows+R and type calc (this is a default windows setting) then hit enter and up comes calulator.

It's really simple and i hope i've helped some people out here :)

i use it all the time now, screw 12 shortcuts to the games i have installed all over my desktop.

if you got any questions/comments just ask :)
(i'm not too great at explaining things)
