Default Info: Windows and hardwares TWEAK! (for mid-ranges)

(Dedicated to the ones who have a mid,low-range computer hoping to boost your computer as far as you could without doing too much overclocking because you don’t know how) for Windows®XP, with nVidia Video Cards

We’ll let that to you guys a minute later for overclocking. Thus, optimizing + overclocking is the real way to b00000000st performance :P

Make sure you have a recovery spot (Start>Program>Assesories>System Tools>System Recovery) and set up a new spot and LET’s RUMBLE!!!
(This method is NOT recommended to the 6800Uers with PM 2.4GHz or X850Peers with FX-55.. but the optimization of this method will be noticible, for me, VERY noticible)

System :

BIOS (press ‘del’ which is at your bottom right of your keyboard, then you will be able to get in a blue screen of configurations):
(the options below may vary from different BIOS versions, but you will find some very similar ones, and they are! Well, not all these options below will be available in your BIOS I think)

Frequency Controls –
Spread Spectrum – ‘disabled’
Clock Rate – (optional, generally higher the better. Recommending an unlock mobo, good ramsticks and a GOOD COOLING. See help within here

And some configurations like ‘PCI/AGP/SATA’ make it to ‘fixed’ or ‘locked’ or ‘33/66/100’
‘Stop Unused PCI clock’ – ‘enabled’

Advance Chipset Controls –
Memory Frequency – (make it to your max)

try finding every option in your BIOS and make sure you have :

Hyper-Threading Technology – “Enabled” (for Intels)
Turbo mode “enabled”(make sure you have ddr400+)
Fast chip Control – ‘enabled’ (this option have a label saying “…DDR400, but the system might be UNSTEADY, and yes, need ddr400+)

Operating System ( Windows®XP ):

1.Make lesser icons on your desktop (why? Windows will locate all the directory of your icons at desktop when start up and that will make quite a few lags when there are too much of them)
2.Go to desktop and right-click your mouse and go to ‘Properties( R)”
3.Go to ‘Desktop’ (sencond slot ) and make the colour(default colour)bar at your bottom right to Black, and disable any wallpapers and use “None”.
4.Go to ‘Displays’ (I must apologize to you guys because I have a Chinese OS and I have no idea what this stuff is in English), that’s the second last option, and click ‘Effects (E)’ and UNCLICK all the boxes (disabling all of them)

5.Right-click ‘My Computer’ , ‘Properties( R)’ and go to ‘Advanced’ (the fourth option) and click the first ‘Settings’ (is that in a section labeld ‘performance’? Damn I just don’t know) and let it be ‘Best Performance(P)’

6.Click ‘Start’(yes this is international) and go to ‘Run’ and type ‘msconfig’
Then go to the last two sections (service and appications(huh? Name? Maybe, just about the programmes starting at the beginning of entering the desktop) and stoping the service that you don’t need, and I am sure that there is a thread about this in www.overclock.net … (by stoping it just make it from ‘Automatic’ to ‘Manual’) and UNCLICK any start-ups that you don’t need (DO NOT unclick explorer.exe or things like cftmon and run32.dll….)at the last section ‘applications’(ouch! Need to be edited again when English Osers correct this miss-translated stuff)

7.Click ‘Start’ and go to ‘Run’ and type ‘regedit’
Go to : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Current Control Set\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management
(Arrrgh and thanks to a dude in www.overclock.net and I nearly copied all his work, just giving conveniency to you guys )

(I). Disable Paging Executive – double click it and in the value data put a “1” (default is 0. And yes don’t move the decimal stuff, just use it by 16(the dex) )
(II). Large System Cache - double click it and in the value data put a “1” (default is “0”)

8.Click ‘Start’ and go to ‘Settings(S)’ and go to ‘Control Panel( C)’
See a label with a man and a woman? J that’s ‘USER” (ouch! Not sure again!) and DISABLE the ‘Guests’
And at the the third blue underlined option above, there is something that is called like “changing the way users log-in … “ double-click, and UNCLICK the first box(if it is only you that is using)

Huff that is all I know about … maybe I forgot something, and gonna edit and add later ONLY if there is people reading it! :P

Video Card:

People starts to forget about CoolBits 1.0 when 2.0v released (you need to re-install your forceware if you want to activate coolbits1.0 since default settings there is a command that denying coolbits 1.0's code to be activated in coolbits2.)

Indeed, coolbits2 worked better with the newer released drivers, but ALOT of options and functions in cbits 1.0 is disabled. For older cards (like gf2mx400 ::: like many ppl can't afford these 6series and don't want to buy the FXs ), overclocking cannot work that much becuz of the way the cards are designed... too BOOST ur card, here are some optimizations.

This is recommended to the GF2~4 series and FX5200~5700 (becuz i've tried on them...very possibly the optimization works for the rest, but i can't stand tomatoes towards me IF something ASTONISHING happened)

first download coolbits 1.0 :
http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=201

press the reg and click YES (and yes...plz make sure u have ForceWare : download it forom www.nvidia.com )

press properties and stuff to ur display driver options...
u will see pretty much up there, and let's begin our evil methods

-- Performance and Quality Settings ---
Image Settings - 'High Performance'
Antialiasing Settings - 'off'
Anisotropic Settings - 'off'

-- Direct 3D Settings --
Mipmap Detail Level - 'Best Performance'
Maximum System Memory for PCI mode Textures :: (default is 62 i think, make it the highest, my max is 255MB)

and UNCLICK (or disable) "Enable Fog Table Emulation"

- OpenGL Settings --
Default color depth (for textures) - 'Always use 16bpp'
Vertical sync - 'Always off'

and for the clock frequency and stuffs...it really depends on the design of your card too choose how far you push it. Recommended, use the "Detect for optimal frequency" option and after that u adjust to the refresh rate u have and make 5~10MHz of the core speed higher. For ATi's or nVIDIA's newer cards OCing see www.overclock.net 's inside threads...man overclock.net's OCers are roxers :P ask them!

Well, for me I have about 10,000 AquaMarks of adding +++ for all that on top and undescriptive gaining of performance in games and in other benchmarks
Thx to www.overclock.net arrrrrrgh this site is ROXing.

and thx to MADMAX22 for some opinions :

maddy :):
another thing as far as increasing the performance from windows (this is for everyone thats tired of the reg windows) get "WINDOWBLINDS" if you run this program the window blinds that are offered actually run alot lower then normal windows, i had everything disabled and was running in classic mode the lowest settings i could go and i installed windowblinds found one that i like and it only raised my usage by like 10 mb still 20 or 30 lower then normal win xp style with everything turned off

(I haven't tried it yet cuz i'm using 56k modem and it will take me centuries, so leaving this to you guys and seeing forward to have feedbacks)

HAVE FUN WITH YOUR SCREAMING MACHINES LOLZ

And admin let this FAQ through HOW?

I disgree with most of your mthods here, and i DONT recommend this to anyone.

"Advance Chipset Controls –
Memory Frequency – (make it to your max)"

Hmm, Yeah. Then what when the persons PC doesnt boot because they've pushed it too far? You can't just set your speed to the highest the board will let you!! FFS!

And all of the graphics 'optimizations' are justforcing settings in the CP rather than in your games.

Its not real performance gains, its just lowering settings. Like setting AA off in the CP, and then turning it on in a game, will mean the AA is actually off. Your not actually getting AA with better FPS.

Most of the other 'optimizations' have been covered many times in other FAQ's.
