Default Info: What does .13um mean?

.13 micron is a manufacturing term that refers to the feature size of the poly-silicon gate in the microprocessor. This feature size has a direct correlation to the speed and power requirements of microprocessor. As feature sizes are reduced, the process speed (GHz) increases while the power requirements decrease correspondingly.

How big is a micron you ask,
To put it into terms you can understand, if you were to take a human hair and peel it 1000 times then one of those peels would be a micron.

.13 micron explaination courtesy of INTEL Corp.

just to let you all know the abbreviation is spelt μm and not um. μ is the Greek letter Mu and so makes an english equivalent of mm, although mm is already used for millimeter and so micrometer (μm) is used.

Wow I thought nanometers was the smallest measure in use! I am constantly reminded that I should have paid much more attention in math class instead of girl watching.
