Default Opinion: Where to purchase pc components in Australia?

Lately I have noticed an increase in Australian users on overclock.net.

Being such a low population base of consumers, purchasing pc components can be a frustrating and expensive exercise.
The concept of monolithic all-in-one stores (ie: newegg) are non existent over here.

"Where can i purchase component 'x' ?"
"Do you know where I can get 'x' cheaper ? "

These are some of the questions which appear all to often in the forums.By no means is the following a concise guide to purchasing but a list of a select few. Each site in their own right has been listed for such attributes as : good varied product line, specific and esoteric items, hard to obtain items, competitive pricing or just down right the cheapest.

Myself and a group of my pc freak friends regularly purchase from these stores and can recommend them from positive direct contact.

I have no commercial interest in any of the sites or their products !

Along with the link I have made a small note including location just to get you started. The sites are listed in no particular order.
I suggest you just browse the sites as 'your' needs will differ from those of the 'next'.

http://www.gamedude.com.au --- Brisbane - good allrounder (mainstream focus) - excellent pricing on almost everything - long wait in lines at store - order & shipping slow - warranty can be a problem sometimes

http://sunshinecomputers.com.au --- Sunshine Coast - excellent store - can acquire almost all of yr needs - pricing is high on some items (will reduce) - excellent site for "I didn't know you could get that' - good order & shipping

http://www.pccasegear.com.au --- Melbourne

http://www.below-0.net. --- Brisbane - good store for cooling needs - some watercooling items - cases and gpu's a bit expensive - excellent order & shipping

http://www.pricepoint.com.au --- Brisbane - good all rounder - very competitive pricing - excellent specials on ram - good order & shipping - local pickup

http://www.chilledpc.com.au --- Brisbane - dedicated to quality water cooling components - stock some gpu (expensive)

http://www.auspcmarket.com.au --- Sydney

http://www.computeralliance.com.au --- Brisbane - nothing to special here - good basic product range - bfg gpu - shopfront open sunday - pricing is competitive (will reduce) - just nice to have a reasonable store to go in on sunday

http://www.umart.com.au --- Brisbane - good range of products - pricing competitive - order & shipping good - local pickup available - one of my favourites !

http://www.cpl.net.au -thanx to ncsa --- Melbourne

http://www.coolpc.com.au --- Brisbane - good cooling stuff as the name suggests - ASETEK warter cooling kits good prices ! - just around the corner from me - they use a residential address.
footnote: I have recently had some feedback in regards to bad experiences meeting overseas orders, with some taking legal action, will monitor the outcome. I personally have only had to wait 1 week for order's to come through after payment.

http://www.mittoni.com.au - Melbourne - G.SKILL importer - THERMALTAKE cases and other bits and pieces - reasonable prices

http://www.staticice.com.au - thanx to Inspire - A good search engine for components.

http://www.msy.com.au/ - thanx to tt shark - Have had a look at this some time ago when suggested. Have not purchased as yet - in other states is good response.

If you have any questions or suggestions for other sites you have used on a regular basis and found to be useful, please feel free to pm or email me.
Thanks for viewing and I hope this will aid you to make an astute purchase in the future.

cheers

You might want to add CPL - big range and stores in Melbourne and big Ads in the Green Guide (MEL users will know :D)

http://www.cpl.net.au/

Web site not much to look at though

www.pccasegear.com is awesome, you've always had my stuff on my door in 3 days from my order date. Orded multiple times from them and the only problem I had was with an adaptor they ran out of stock on. They rang another company, got a better one sent over and gave me the better one at no additional cost.

www.gamedude.com.au well I delt with them just yesteday to get a graphics card... I dont recomend, they had my money for 10days before my card was sent, extemely annoying. They need to get thier act together and hire more employees instead of being tight. 2+ weeks to get a card from Brisban to Sydney is compleatly stupid, it would have been quicker to driver. They're also vage in thier communication which rubs me up too. I asked for dates when my item would be sent and they said it to package and invoice my item it "takes time". Sure, but that was after 7working days after they had my money. They also dont accept credit card :( They're cheap on graphicscards though I found, everything else like cooling is overpriced compaired to www.pccasegear.com

My 2 cents on two differant companies. :)

yeh as I stated they are slow arse in order and shipping, 2weeks that is a bit of a wait if they had the part in stock.
I have ordered sometimes via their website to save delays at storefront but can take 4 days for them to process and confirm the order.

Last time I used them payment by credit card was okay.

Thanks for the input on your exprerience with the above company's

My experience with Computers Parts Land has been good.
And PC Case Gear, very speedy service, I ordered my parts and got them within two days much to my suprise.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Another place I'd highly recommend would be http://www.scorptec.com.au/
Very fast service, they've got very cheap prices and they're reliable.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I do however want to warn anyone about one company, I had a very bad experience with them. I waited 2 months for a graphics card when it arrived they gave me a nvidia 5600 when I clearly ordered a Asus V9999 6800 Ultra Deluxe I waited another 2 weeks because they told me that the part was arriving. . . two weeks later, No part. . . their excuse, they didn't think they could get it any more. . . however in their ad the card was still advertised week after week, I then ordered a BFG 6800 Ultra OC another 2 to 3 months passed (I'm quite patient), they used stall tactics and they tried to cheat me by charging me double when it finally arrived, never again will I put my trust in a company I don't know. The service was crappy too, lol.
Once I had finally gotten my money back, I ordered my BFG 6800Ultra from Scorptec and got it within 3 days.

Stay away from a company called CentreCom

And that's my life story! :P
