Default How to: Fix Bent Pins?

Face it we all have bent pins while playing with our rigs and I’ve found an easy safe way to fix them no more tweezers or razor blades.

1. Get yourself a .5mm mechanical pencil from a store make sure it's a metal tipped one (most of us have it laying around) and empty the lead, also make sure there is no lead loaded in the tip.

2. Next place the tip over the bent pin (wow it’s a perfect fit!) and slowly bent it back to normal.

3. Now I suggest you undershoot the bend because it is safer to bend metal more in the same direction then to have to bend it the opposite way.

4. Now put that CPU back in the socket and enjoy!!!

*Keep this tip in your head for the next time you bend a pin

I read this in Maximum PC aswell :-P

But good job, its a nice trick. I've used needle nose pliers to fix a intel 478 that was stepped on. Pain in the ass, but I got a free CPU from it. I wish I had known about this when I had to do it :-P

Nice FAQ. I had to use this the other day when I dropped my processor. It bent about 5 pins. Thanks to this FAQ I fixed it.
