Nice tips. I recently made a water resevoir holder that bolted to my case out of 1/10" think acrylic. I didn't have the tools or the knowhow but somehow made something that fits and works using a dremel, drill press and band saw. I eyballed most of the measurments it since that was sufficient to get the job done, but it's good to read how to do it properly :)

you know you can make your own adhesive with acrylic shavings...MethylEthylKetone and Acetone....it works better than any stor bought stuff and it is always the color of the stuff you are workign with

Hmmm sounds toxic...I use a high solvent specifically designed to weld acrylic to acrylic--there is no muss, no fuss, just a capillary applicator and a can of "adhesive" that you apply with a little bottle that has a thin steel tube applicator for a nozzle--looks like an unsharpened hypodermic needle. Run that along side the joint you want to weld and let the fluid creep under the edge--no clamps are needed, but it is best to let the piece get good ad dry (20 minutes) before handling it--I use masking tape to keep the pieces aligned--just have to be careful about gluing the tape to the acrylic--so be sure to leave a gap at the joint you are gluing together. The adhesive ad applicator are available at plastic shops. Won't find this stuff at Lowes or HD.

FYI MEK and acetone are carcenogenic and can be absorbed into the blood stream through skin--use nitryl or butyl gloves and adequate ventilation to avoid their toxic effects.

Yeah, but if you'r enot an idiot, you would have read the bottle before ever opening it. I do my MEK and acrslic work outsidewith nirile gloves at all times, and i don't exactly like working with it a whole lot, but it is definitely the best stuff for it. Since you are using acrylic shavings from the same material you are working with, it's always the same color.

The lovely thing about MEK and acetone is that when the adhesive is dry, the MEK and acetone are completely eveporated. This means that you basically fused it together with liquid acrylic.
