What is TeamSpeak? Teamspeak (TS) is a voice chat program that allows you to chat with other people while playing games or doing whatever it is you do on your computer! It is especially useful because it can hold MANY users (depending on the server), and has many special features. The most useful features (and most people don't even use this) is the ability to bind keys. You can bind any key you want to a large selection of commands. Some of these commands are Whisper to Player / Channel / Channel Commander (which means only the person/people you are whispering to you can hear you, and you don't even need to be in the same channel!), Switch to Predefined Channel / Predefined Server / Previous Channel (handy for when you are in a game and someone is annoying you, switch channels or servers without leaving your game!), and volume control. To bind a new command, go to Settings ->Key Settings, then click Add, and then basically select you keys to bind and the command to bind them to. TS also has the abilities to have Channels and Sub-Channels, all with seperate properties (i.e. password protected, registration required, moderated). When you first join a TS server, you will be unregistered (U), and a server admin (SA) can grant you registration. There are also channel admins (CA) which have admin rights in their own channel. And TS is also available for Linux, although not for Mac (unless running virtual pc). TS is great because it does not take much resources so it won't detract from your game. EDIT: Teamspeak is available for OsX, but is in Beta. Teamspeex (the Mac version) can be downloaded on this page. Thx for the info pb3400. You can download TS at: http://www.goteamspeak.com/news.php Here are some screenies of TS in action.

Teamspeak is cool. I once attended a question and answer session with the Pure Pwnage crew and the server had over 400 people in it!!

BF2 uses in game voice anyway, TS (teamspeak) is an external voice program used by mainly clans, some servers do have seperate teamspeak servers to coinside with their games. Personally I find that Ventrillo is a much better voice application, its is extremely better quality than TS and uses less RAM and Bandwidth so it doesn't affect the performance of your gaming.

I hosted TS in Joint Ops and BF2 with no lag problems at all with 5-6 ppl connected. I couldnt even tell it was running in the background. We now have a dedicated TS server and have never had a problem with it. As far as Vent, I have never used it so I cant comment either way. Got used to TS and never wanted to try anything else. We did try Skype, but it was just too much of a resource hog when trying to play BF2. Scrapped it very quickly.
