You don't need rivatuner for this kind of modding/flashing. It is recommended that you use the ATI X850 Pro AGP from ATI itself which has VIVO also, there seem to be alot of people who uses this card and are successfully flash to XT/PE with 16 Pipes.
Before you begin: THIS MOD/FLASH IS FOR AGP VERSION ONLY!!! Here are the steps on how to do it 1: Download the XT-PE BIOS, and the Modified flashrom (check the attachment) 2: Make a backup of your current BIOS with modified flashrom. 3: Flash your AGP X850Pro with XT-PE BIOS with modified flashrom. Commands: To save your bios type this: "flashrom -s 0 backup.bin" (your original bios will now labeled "backup" and the extension is "bin" To flash the bios type this: "flashrom -f -p 0 (bios name).bin" Notes: I rename the XTPE's bios to PE so it would be easier for me or even you to remember and to flash. To back up type this : "flashrom -s 0 backup.bin" To flash type this : "flashrom -f -p 0 PE.bin" Cautions: It is recommended that you downclock it to the Pro's original 500/500 or 520/540 for XT. But DO NOT leave it at PE speed without aftermarket cooling. I hope that all you will be able to unlock it like i did and enjoy your 16 pipes card Here is the ATI X850Pro AGP Vivo Card that i used to flash http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1118842670249 Thus far we (us ATI modders and Sphere of course) have only seen the agp vivo versions unlock but all other pros should still be able to flash to a 12 pipe xtpe. Although, it should works on the ATI VIVO card, i have no guarantee that it will turn out like we wanted, so don't put your bet on it and if it turns out that you can't unlock the 16 pipes, it will hurts you really bad, and me too (cause you'll witch (replace the "w" with "b") and moan about it to me. You could always get any other brand X850Pro that has VIVO, examples are Sapphire, MSI. ect.... Edit: Another thing, you can unlock your Pro to get 16 pipes after you flashed to XTPE, then if you really want it, you can always use your original bios to flash it back (it will stay 16 pipes) to get CONTROL OF YOUR FAN!!! The XT and PE bios disable your ability to control your fan, all i know so far is that the Pro has that ability to leave you with that function. Use the ATIflash provided in this attachment to flash it back to PRO and have the fan controller. Edit: You can also re-flash to XTPE with the modified flashrom to get the XTPE name and THE CONTROL OF YOUR FAN TOO!!! I tried it and it worked, Now I was able to get both the XTPE bios with the Fan Controller If you have any question please send me a PM or Sphere. EDIT: I added the bios "X850XTPE with Fan Controller" as a shortcut to you guys, so just use the modified flashrom and that bios then you're done, you will get both 16 pipes 540/590 speeds and fan controller

Couple things to add/suggest. :)
You should host the files here. The aftermarket cooling is required on only some pros. (The ones that dont cool the ram stock.) Thus far I have only seen the agp vivo versions unlock but all other pros should still be able to flash to a 12 pipe xtpe. You should include that this isn't guaranteed to work in all cases. the x850's that are not from ati dirrectly are almost always identical except for the sticker. There seems to be a problem with the pe's fan controls so if they want they can flash a 16 pipe pro bios to the card by using this bios with the moded flashrom. You can use rabit to turn vivo on or of in a bios if needed. Here are some bioses you can use in your guide dude. :) http://www.overclock.net/showthread....116#post252116 Btw, if you want ill add a link to your guide in my faq. :) Last edited by SPHERE : 09-13-05 at 03:30 AM |

hey wasup sorry to bug but im freaking clueless to what http://www.overclock.net/faqs/44936-how-flash-your-x850pro-xt-pe.html that link was talking about. i just bought a x850 pro and im looking to open up some pipes. just wondering if you can get anyone to guide me (like a child with his hand held) thur the prossess of flashing my bios. i dled the three links avaliable and i have no clue what to do with them. heres some heads up before you answer or if you do answer. i didnt dl the catalyst driver cuz i didnt like the interface (i dunno i just didnt like it) so i installed the simple version. the control center. it was more simplified and easy to use. will that make a differnce in flashing my card? please help, ive been trying to figure out how to do this without help and i dont think ill manage.

so if i were to do this and it were sucessfully flashed, i would be able to run at the xt pe speeds of 540/590 and also have the 16 pipelines, with no worries of it overheating on the stock heat sink and fan? That is my only worry because i don't want to upgrade that.

it shoun't give off too much heat, just use the fan controller and turn it on 90%

Flashing it to a pe (basically) only changes the name and the default clocks. With a x850xtpe bios your card is gonna make just as much heat as if your pro was at those clocks. **separately** Unlocking of your pipes can be done using ither bios. And more active pipes will also increase heat output. Wether or not your cards stock cooling can keep the card cool enough to stay stable we can't tell you. you have to find out for your self. :) |
