What is FahMon?
__________________FahMon is a handy utility that can help you keep track of your folding progress of one or more computers that are on a network. It works with both the console and graphical version of the folding application. This is what the program windows looks like - Where can I get FahMon? The official website for the software is here. You can download the program and the source code there. How do I monitor the folding progress of the computer I'm currently working on? On the left side of the application window, right click to bring up the "Add a new client" option. Select this option to bring up the "Client information" dialog box. Enter a name of your choosing and then either type in the path of your Folding@Home directory or else click the "..." button to browse to it. Click on the "OK" button, and the entry for your current computer will appear. How do I monitor the folding progress of other computers on the network? You can monitor the progress of any computer on your network, providing you can browse to the Folding@Home directory on each of the computer you're wanting to monitor. The procedure to share folders varies by operating system. Follow the steps listed in the previous section, but browse to the Folding@Home directory on the networked computer (for example, by using My Network Places on newer versions of Windows). I set up FahMon, but it doesn't give me any (or much) information on the right side of the application window. What can I do? First, be sure that you have selected an entry in the left half of the application window. If you have done that, select the "FahMon" menu and click on the "Download New Projects" option. You can set up the program to download new projects automatically as described below. What are the benchmarks listed in the FahMon menu? The benchmark entry on the FahMon menu (see previous section for photo) is one of the most useful functions of this application. It keeps track of time to complete frames for each of the work units (WUs) completed by your computer(s), including fastest time to complete and average time to complete. It computes points per day for each WU based on these times. What about the preferences in the FahMon menu? Preferences are accessed from the "FahMon" menu (see photo, two sections above). The "General" tab has three options. The most useful option is enabling automatic updating of the project database. The system tray icon option, unfortunately, does not allow for the program to be minimized to the system tray; it still resides on the task bar when minimized. The "Monitoring" tab allows you to specify the frequency for updating the status for each entry in the left half of the application window and to choose the format to display the projected end of each WU listed (either by time remaining or by date/time of completion). The "Networking" tab allows for the use of a proxy for http connections. What options are available on the Monitoring menu? The "Monitoring" menu allows you to manually refresh your entries individually or together. It also allows you to show/hide the log file for the selected entry. What can I get on the Web menu? The "Web" menu, not surprisingly, provides quick access to many of the official online Folding@Home resources including your status, the official website, and the server status page. Summary FahMon is a very handy utility for monitoring the folding progress on one or more computers. It's very easy to use yet has some very nice features such as keeping track of the processing time on each WU on each computer. There are some other monitoring applications available, but I have found this one to be the easiest to set up while still being very informative.

Interesting, once I get the systems on an KVM again and most likely add a 3rd PC I'll have to dig into this deeper :)

Nice FAQ, but can FahMon monitor other rigs thats not on the same network? I have a P4 in another room that uses my neighbor's wireless internet, is there a way I can monitor that rig? Thanks!
