Default Info: Has your Intel CPU got its "Hyperthreading Technology" enabled?

Has your INTEL CPU got its ''HYPERTHREADING TECHONLOGY'' Enabled ???

What is Hyper-Threading?

Hyper-Threading is a microprocessor simultaneous multithreading technology (SMT) that supports the concurrent execution of multiple separate instruction streams, referred to as threads of execution, on a single physical processor. When Hyper-Threading is used with the Intel processors that support it, there are two threads of execution per physical processor.

First of all lets see if you have the right Equipment as such to Have ''HYPERTHREADING'' enabled on your INTEL CPU, Below is what you need to have in order to have ''HYPERTHREADING'' enabled and active.

1. An ''INTEL HYPERTHREADING ENABLED CPU''.

2. A motherboard capable of handling an ''INTEL HYPERTHREADING'' enabled CPU. ( The motherboard in question may need an Upgrade of its bios for HTT to work properly. )

3. A Motherboard chipset that alows HTT ( HYPERTHREADING ).Now you may be thinking im repeating myself with ''Step 2'' but some chipsets dont actually ''FULLY'' support HTT.

4. You will have to have a copy of WINDOWS XP. This is because this is the only Operating system to date that takes advantage of the ''HTT'' ( HYPERTHREADING ) in INTEL CPU'S.

Now once you have got the right Equipment to Have ''HTT'' enabled these are the steps you need to Enable and check that ''HTT'' is running.

1. When you start up your Computer go into your Motherboards Bios, This is done by hitting a variety of keys to get into your bios ...the most common Key is the '''Del'' key or ''F2'' key. Once in your bios look at the list of different sections to go into and look for one called ''Advanced chipset options'', Highlight this option and hit ''Enter''. Once inside this look for an option called ''HYPERTHREADING TECHNONLOGY'' ( That name can vary on the type of bios ) Highlight this option and ''Enable'' it. Then Save and Exit your bios.

2. Now once you have booted into Windows XP ''Right click'' on your ''Taskbar'' and select ''Task manager''. Once the ''Task manager'' opens select the ''Performance tab''. Now if you have The ''HTT'' enabled you should see TWO seperate boxes under the ''CPU usage History'' section, As shown below

If your HTT is not Enabled properly you should only see ONE whole box, As shown below.

If you have no luck Try going over the steps above again and also make sure that anything you change in the bios that you ''SAVE'' it before you exit. Also if you still have no luck double check that you have the right equipment to have ''HTT'' in the list above. Also to test if your system has all the required Components you can run the Intel Utility shown below, But just to advise you this Utility may say you have failed but that does not mean your HTT is not Enabled or you cant have it, Its simply because this program has a little Bug in it that it will only really Recognise Intel based Chipsets. If you have 2 boxes in your ''Taskmanger'' like above your HTT is definately enabled and operational regardless of what the Utility says.
