By default windows sets the L2 cache of your AMD to zero...yes...0 Here's how to get it runnin'.... Goto start>run (Windows key + R) then type in "regedit" (regedit32 for advanced users as it provides a few more strings to play with) Once your here goto HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Session Manager\Memory Management\SecondLevelDataCache Now right-click and choose modify...select decimal and enter the value of your L2...128,256,512...etc!!!! Restart...and while you may not notice dramatic effects Overclockers...most processes and applications should be a little quicker...just another basic from...PROBN4LYFE

You must be mistaken... I've seen benchmarks with L2 cache disabled in the bios and it's like a 10X performance gain when they enable it. Windows isn't that dumb that they wouldn't use the cache that people pay so much for.

At first when I read this FAQ I had my doubts it would actualy work, since that would have meant I've been using my AMD CPUs with the cache diabled all these years, from my duron to my newcastle. Lat night the first thing I did was to find the string and to modify it. Everything was just as it is written here, but after restarting I've seen there is no difference, no before/after WOW. I have no logical explination why that string has a default value of 0, but I'm sure that info is not used by anything, my CPU is working as it should.
Furter more, in the bios I can disable the L2 cache. I tested it with the L2 cache disabled and the results were catastrophic, it was like having to race a Formula 1 race driving a truck, so I'm preety sure that even on AMD cpus the L2 cache is enabled, up and running without editing this string

this doesnt sound right...i ahve an Intel P4 LGA775 630 and the value of that string is also 0. If your L2 cahe is enabled in bios then its enabled in windows. Simple fact: Bios setting overrule software settings.

This does NOTHING.
L2 Cache is always enabled unless you disable in BIOS. No if's and but's. This does NOTHING.
