Default How To: Folding On Dual Core for Dummies

I, like many people, have had trouble getting the dual core folding up and running. Once I figured it out, I decided to make a FAQ (thanks to The Duke for the suggetion). So, I am going to tell you from sratch so there is no confusion:

Here is what you need:
  1. folding.stanford.edu/download.html
  2. You will need two folding folders, for convience I named mine Core 1 and Core 2. Place these folders where you intend for them to say, as moving them will mess up your F@H startup registry.

Here are the steps:
  1. Delete all your previous Folding@home directory, files, ect.
  2. Place a copy of the F@H console.exe in each folder that you made (Core 1 and Core 2).
  3. Open the F@H console and the set your name, team, ect. When asked about advanced options, select yes. Here you want to go through the list until you are asked if you want to set your Machine ID. Set your Core 1 to Machine 1, and core 2 to Machine 2.
  4. Check in the console when it starts the Folding log, it should say on one .exe Machine 1, and another Machine 2.
If it says that, you are good to go.

Here is a screen shots of what it should say:

The team name is not a advanced option. Team name is the 2nd option when you run the program. You can edit your FAH core option by making a shortcut for the program. Then you right click on it and go to properties. There where it says shortcut to add " -config"

Remember to leave a space before the -config.

Note that if you choose to run a client as a service, it will appear in the windows tasks with the owner as SYSTEM. It will run automatically and you do not need to start it on your own. In my experience, running as a service has less errors, less hassle, and fewer lost WU's.

I didn't know when it was running as a service, it would run on 2 cores.
