Default Info: Steam Configuration

In this faq i going to tell you how to make your steam games to run smoother , and remember , this is my first FAQ!

Rightclick on your steam icon down in the right corner besides the clock and select "games"

Then, choose a game you want to make run smoother and rightclick on it and select "properties"

Next, click on the button "set launch options"

and write "-noforcemaccel -noforcemparms -noforcemspd -full -heapsize 400000 -noaafonts -nojoy -noipx -dxlevel 81 -w 1024 -h 768 -freq 85 -16 bpp"

Now just click "OK" and ENJOY!

*remember that if your monitor cant take 85 or higher in Hz then change the "-freq 85" and if you wish to play on antoher resoluton just simple change it in "-w 1024 -h 768"

It turns the resolution to 1024x768, and forces DirectX 8.1 mode.

When making a FAQ be sure to explain it a little better. For example what do these commands do?

-noforcemaccel -noforcemparms -noforcemspd

Those noforce command disable all mouse acceleration in game. Quite useful...

EDIT: You can completely disable mouse acceleration for steam applications by first going to Mouse in Control Panel, and making sure "enhance pointer precision" is unchecked. Then, with those noforce commands, whatever steam application that you set it up for will have mouse acceleration disabled. This is quite useful if you just play CS1.6 and don't want to install mouse drivers.

Larger explaination:

-noforcemaccel:
Disables (Or doesn't force) mouseacceleration
-noforcemparms
Not fully sure, but this will disable/don't force extras such as scroll wheel speed.
-noforcemspd
This command is wrong, the correct use is -noforcemspeed and uses a deafult speed of the mouse. This is not recommended by me, because you can finetune your sensitivity even more with this disabled, by using windows too.
-full
Makes it run in fullscreen
-heapsize 400000
Sets the heapsize (Kinda like a buffer) to 400000 KB. This value is low and should be increased to ie. 600000.
-noaafonts
Disables antialiasing at fonts. This will give a decent increase in framerates in low resolutions
-nojoy
Useless and just disables joystick.
-noipx
Stupid to have this toggled (Means having it in the shortcut), since IPX can speed up LAN speeds a good bit.
-dxlevel 81
Simulates the GFX as it was DirectX 8.1 compatible. I recommend this as low as possible (70) unless you have a graphics card that can run the stress test at anything high, without AA.
-w 1024
Width #
-h 768
Height #
-freq 85
HZ Frequency. Most LCD monitors only supports up to 75hz, my CRT supports 135HZ in 640x480
-16 bpp
This is also wrong, it's -bpp 16 and will not work in CS:S. CS:S use solely 32bit textures and will hamper performance alot with this on.
