Great FAQ and your main point was made perfectly clear to me. I always thought that when two rails showed 22Amps each that they added to 44, but before now, i never knew how it was calculated. Rep + !

There is no real formula... you just need to look carefully at the information provided by the manufacturer. A good source is the label on the PSU itself, and Newegg often provides images of those. Here are a couple of examples, one where an image is available and one where you need to look at the manufacturer's website:

Antec TruePower II: 550W, dual 12V rails of 19A each, and a total max load of 36A (see attached image. The max load is mentioned.)

Hiper Type R: 580W, dual 12V rails of 20A and 18A, and a total max load of 360W, which equals 30A (see website, scroll down to 'output load regulation')
http://www.hipergroup.com/English/pr...hpu-4b580.html

Although these seem almost equally powerful at first glance, the Antec can deliver 6A more on the 12V rails.

I hope this helps :)

I don't get it... What use is the second 12V rail? are there mobos with 2 slots or is it specially made for a GPU?

Rails offer stabilty by splitting the load on the 12V line.
