Default Dumb question.....quad core

I am assuming that my quad core counts as four cores for my folding team, thus not allowing me to use it, correct? It arrives friday, so I wanted to know. Thanks...
I am excited to see what it does with the smp client

Running a quad core would count as 4 CPUs for the competition no matter what Stanford's website shows. I wonder if you could run two instances of VMWare, so that you could have one client folding under your user name and the other folding with the user name Hiba2 or something. And another thing, I think you can only utilize 2 cores with VMWare. If I'm thinking right, you would have to run Linux natively to actually run all four cores with the SMP client.

thanks man..I wouldn't cheat the competition, which is why I was asking..if worst comes to worst, I will just use my current setup to fold for my team, and set up the quad with the x6800 for a folding farm under hiba2

perhaps it also matters that my mother died of breast cancer...that makes this rather an important issue for me directly. I agree that global gluttonous resource hogging is another huge issue...i think we can concentrate on more than one at once.

I cleaned up the thread a bit to get it more on topic. For the team competition, a quad core on SMP wouldn't work. Running three consoles on it for the team would work, though it would be nearly a crime not to run SMP on it. If you can get a decent OC out of it, you'll definitely put a lot of pressure on me for the team lead and will likely take it over fairly easily. I've said it before - I don't mind losing the lead if someone steps up and beats me; I'd just hate to have my production drop off due to hardware issues.

SMP would use all 4 cores to fold one WU right? I would love to see that! Spittin out WU's like watermellon seeds.

Have fun Hiba!

Thanks for deleting that junk Taeric, but where'd my "just run two consoles" post go I thought it was on topic...
