The Odd Mod

Ok, so pending more information and long(er) term results, 2000ppd is the cap for GPU folders (And I assume this is total for the folder and not per GPU. With that I mean, a single GPU counts as 2 cores when capped to 2000ppd. Is this correct?.

For the short term, yes. Let's give Stanford some time to do some adjustments. To me, it's absoltuely insane that a single system could score 8k+ ppd without even folding on the CPU. There was definitely point inflation from the console to SMP, but this jump seems pretty crazy to me. On the flipside, if they were able to code the new GPU client to work on a broader range of WUs than it could previously and it still crunch at the same (very very fast) speed, the points it earns may well with commensurate with the contribution to the folding cause.
One way or another, we need to keep the GPUs in balance with the remainder of the clients if the team competition is going to have any validity. I'm fine with the concept of throttling as it gets folders full credit for their work yet keeps the team competition in line. If that sticks, there will have to be a provision like with quads that team members who choose to use the GPU client with a cap forgo folding on any other systems under their primary folding name (to keep power folders from joining the competition with a big farm and a cap).

I haven't fully set-up the new GPU client, but I agree, those numbers are insane. This is going to throw the entire team thing into a loop. I am somewhat surprised at the initial performance. I hope it is legit as that will allow many of us to push out some really nice numbers with little hardware.

so, let me get this stright in my head, i can keep folding on my gpu and take the 2k/day capp or put my gpu under the spare core name and just use my cpu for 2k+ if it produces that much?

Correct. 3 out of 4 guys on my team use the CPU SMP because we believe we can get more than 2k ppd. The extra cores or GPU goes under Team_Rough_Riders.

That's correct. Dual core CPUs will count for whatever they produce and quads/GPUs are capped at 2k ppd. The reason for this is because the line for power folders has been drawn at quads and, more recently, GPUs. If a folder who has "power gear" chooses to participate in the team competition, they get throttled back. For folders who do not have the current highest end gear, they get to count all of their points (within the constraints of the team competition rules).

Marsey, the cap only applies to people in Team Competition. If you're running solo for OCN, there is no cap.
