I just got my system built last night and when i checked the bios, it was running 47C idle. Then i went into Asus Probe II and it says 38C. Why is my idle so high? Is it supposed to be this high?

EDIT: I made another thread called 6600 idle hot? but i forgot there is an Nvidia Card called the 6600 so i make a new thread.

I am 89% addicted to Counterstrike.

That would seem normal for me if you were on stock cooling. One thing to remember is the bios temps are actually not idle temps, they are temps at 70-80% load. If I were you I would go download orthos and TaT, run it, and see what your temps level out at. If they are below 60.1 you are within the suggested temps for your chip. You could always try removing the stock TMI on that HSF and replacing it with some AS5. Good luck!

Thnx, ill try that. Also, i have AS5 but installing this stock heatsink was a pain. Ive installed other ones b4 but this one is just really hard. How much of a temperature difference will i get out of the AS5?

Usually you will see a 3-5 c drop versus the stock TMI.

Yes the stock HSF is just plain junk, I used it for a month and I had the exact same temps you had, switched to the AC 7 Pro and idled@34, switched to Tuniq Tower and idled@28C.

The main problem is my cpu is at 70C on load using TAT. That is not right because my friend JetboyF16 has stock and has oced his to 3.0ghz and his load is 59C
